In one of my campaigns, I have planned an encounter with a noble the characters must negotiate with. Their negotiations will fail because the noble is being corrupted by a powerful spirit called a Narci. Narci are the spirits of cruel, vain men and women who have fallen from grace in their desire to become paragons of physical beauty. Many make pacts with the Demon Lord Gra'azt for their beauty, and in turn they must serve him as tempting apparitions after death, spreading evil and destroying beauty.

Devious serpent folk devoid of compassion, yuan-ti manipulate other creatures by arousing their doubts, evoking their fears, and elevating and crushing their hopes. From remote temples in jungles, swamps, and deserts, the yuan-ti plot to supplant and dominate all other races and to make themselves gods.

Hmmm.... I'm starting to think my level 5 party can't handle this one. But I just redid the CR work and I guess I screwed up and forgot to apply the extra damage/round from the multiattack action.

I really like the Narci. When they're higher level I would use it. For the meantime, I suggest taking the wraith, halve the hit points, and give it the possession feature.

I think a group of lvl 5 adventurers could handle this, assuming the following: All of the adventurers had access to a magical weapon, all of the adventurers had at at least a +5 to hit, and at least some of the adventurers had at least 36HP. If you wanted to be sure, you could drop the + to hit from +8 to +6. I'd also drop one of the 2 curses, probably corrupting touch. Aside from that, just make sure you have a church that offers remove curse for a fee within a few days walk.
If your characters don't have magical weapons to bypass the damage resistance, then it gets trickier. Note: a mace of cold would not count as a magic weapon that could bypass resistances.
Let's do the math. I have a frost brand scimitar which I use to hit Narci. I hit the Narci for 5 slashing damage and 3 cold damage. Because the weapon is magical, the Narci takes 5 slashing damage but because of Narci's immunity to cold, he takes no cold damage.

Are you sure it's only CR 5?

Agreed, 135 is a little ridiculous if it has immunity to three damage types and resistance to bludgeoning, slashing, and piercing.

Ok. Definitely needs a CR upgrade. How's 7 sound?

How's CR 9 sound? I just did the calculations, and that's where it wound up.

it has resistance against cold also... so no.

I suppose maybe I should reduce the hit points.
