I've told my players for an upcoming campaign that sorcerer and warlock expanded spell lists are extra spells known rather than extra options, in the same way that they are for the two new sorcerer subclasses from Tasha's. I've made this ruling because I feel that it's just more fun that way, and it doesn't break the game anyway. One of the players is indeed choosing to play a warlock, they've gone for the fathomless patron...but I don't know how to go about adding the spells to the character sheet... can anyone offer any advice?
If you have access to Tasha’s on DDB, the easiest way to learn is to make a subclass using one of those as a template, just so you can dissect it to see how it works. (You can delete it later.) If you try to do it (the way prepared casters are programmed) it won’t work (as you discovered).
