Currently creating a subclass for the monk that gains some access to cleric spells and I'm struggling to get it to work at all. This is what I am trying to do:
At 11th level, whenever you finish a long rest, you may prepare a number of 1st-level spells equal to your wisdom modifier from the cleric spell list. Before the end of your next long rest, you may spend 2 ki points and cast any of these spells using a favored weapon as your spellcasting focus. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for these spells.
Any idea on how I should go about this? I turned spellcasting on but it still won't allow my class to prepare spells.
Unfortunately, there is no real way to accomplish what you want with DDB’s system. You can add Spellcasting to a monk subclass, but it will only add the exact same progression of Spell Slots and Spells Known that the Eldritch Knight gets. (I explained it all 👉here👈 if you are interested.) However, what you are describing doesn’t work like the EK in the slightest.
There is no way to create a Subclass for a martial class that can Prepare spells the way a Cleric does. There is no way to have the system grant a number of spells tied to an Ability modifier like you mentioned. Finally, there is no way to have the system use Ki as the resource when casting spells.
The closest you can currently get to what you described with DDB’s system would be using the “Spells” form for that feature. But before I explain how, I’ll explain all the ways it’ll fall short (that way, if you decide it’s no good I won’t have wasted the time or energy):
They would have to leave their character sheet every long rest, go into the builder and pick their spells there.
It would technically always let them pick up to 6 spells, and you would have to trust them to only select a number of spells that equal their Wis mod and leave the rest of them unselected.
The spells would always display as “At Will” like cantrips, and the player would have to manually deduct the correct number of Ki whenever they cast a spell.
If you’re good with👆that, just say so and I’ll tell you how if you can’t figure it out.
