Hello just as the title says simply trying to do this on my homebrew armor and I can't find anyway to. I would like to award special pieces of armor that don't require proficiency.
Armor doesn't require proficiency except to cast spells. To create a piece of armor that allows its wearer to cast spells without proficiency has pretty big implications. Regardless, it's not possible to code it in using D&D Beyond's homebrew tool. You'll have to just pretend.
I found a way around it, and that is to go proficiency and then set it to the type of armour (eg:plate), so that if you don’t have proficiency with heavy armour at least that piece gives the pc temporary proficiency while they wear it

With the “Proficiency->Self” that I suggested it does the same thing, but instead of temporarily giving proficiency in all armor of that type whe they w at it it only gives proficiency in itself while they wear it.

Be not afraid.
Wait. Actually, be very afraid.
You would use the following modifier to have that specific armor automatically grant proficiency in itself to the wearer:
Modifier: Proficiency->Subtype: Self
