I've got a monk subclass that I've homebrewed, and ideally I want to replace using the WIS modifier in the base class with the INT modifier (for Unarmored Defense and Ki modifiers). The subclass is a third-caster subclass with a wizardly bent (like eldritch knight or arcane trickster) but for a monk. Because of the heavy reliance on INT in the spellcasting, I want to give the player the option to use INT instead of WIS for monk features in general.
I found advice saying to use the 'Set' Modifier on the 'Unarmored Armor Class', and that almost solves my first problem (getting the AC right), except when I've added the subclass to my Monk player's PC, she's getting both the WIS and INT mods.
So the questions I've got are:
1) What do I need to do to make it pick one or the other for the AC, but not both?
2) How do I futz with the ki save DC and stuff via the homebrew subclass?
Unfortunately there is no way to adjust the majority of all base class features by means of a homebrewed subclass. I’m not sure it’s even possible to force a Monk to not add Wis to their Unarmored AC.
As for the Ki Save DC, if that is possible then it would be under Basic Information for the subclass, change the Spellcasting Ability from Wis to Int. (If that doesn’t do it, then nothing will.)
Monk ability save DC is just a snippet I think, so it'll be hard-coded to Wisdom. All you can do in that case is add a feature along the lines of "In place of your normal save DC for Monk abilities you may/must instead use 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier", then add a snippet that will auto-calculate it on the character sheet ({{savedc:int}} iirc), it'll otherwise be up to the player to take care of it themselves.
For your alternative Unarmored Defence you should just need to add a modifier of Set -> Unarmed Armor Class and set INT as the ability score I believe; this should give you 10 + DEX + INT (as DEX is always included by default). You won't be able to force the use of this calculation over 10 + DEX + WIS though since that's built into the class; you'll just have to assume the player will build around INT and therefore D&D Beyond will use the better option. Mechanically you can just phrase it again as "You may use your Intelligence modifier in place of Wisdom for your Unarmored Defence" so it's written as optional that INT is used in place of WIS.
