Hi all -- I have a Rune Knight Fighter in my group that has a better reason for her save DC to be associated with her Int and not her Con. (IRL she has a PhD so she originally joked that her character's undergrad thesis was on Giant Runes and Their Usage, and not until she actually found herself fighting for her life did she think of the practical application of them. I leaned in, of course.)
I won't go in to the long convoluted story of why, but she is carrying a specific notebook that has lengthy notes on how to cast the cantrip Minor Illusion. I have mechanics in place for her to successfully learn this. What I am attempting to do is homebrew this notebook as an item which will allow her to cast Minor Illusion when she succeeds eventually, and at that point also allow the item to let her use her Int mod instead of her Con mod for her save DC (the flavour being that working from research to practical once more gives her some more choice and facility with her abilities).
Usually I don't have much trouble with this and giving the cantrip via an item is totally straightforward, but short of creating a subclass with this one change in it based on the Rune Knight Fighter I'm at my wit's end how to make a magic item for her to have that alters her Fighter save from 8 + PB + Con to Int.
I strongly prefer this option coming from an item rather than the class itself as well. Being a properly good/evil DM I'm already into the idea that this prized item and the abilities that come with it could be taken away from her in the future if she angers a creature intelligent or wise enough to notice the attachment she has to the notebook/spellbook (which will almost certainly happen at some point as charisma is her dump stat).
The only way to do it is to make a homebrewed version of her subclass and change the “spell casting ability” under basic information and then swap her to the new version of the subclass. You might even need to edit the actual snippet.

All help gratefully received!
