I was inspired to make a Bard based on a non-musical form of entertainment aka Art/Paintings. As such I want to make a cantrip that fulfills the effects of Color theory.
The Spell is called Color of the Brush and has the following:
Action, 30ft, (S, M), Instantaneous, Transmutation School, Bard of Creation As an action pick the type of effect the spell will do to the target.
Red (Health): A creature within range, regains 2 hit points if that creature is currently below 10 hit points.
Orange (Encouragement): A creature within range, is no longer frightened.
Yellow (Intellect): A creature within range, gets +1 Intelligence Modifier for 1 minute. Casting again on the same creature refreshes the duration.
Lime (Energetic): A creature within range, gets +1 AC or +10 movement for 1 round.
Green (Freshness): A creature within range, can regain +10 hit points after a short rest. Casting again on the same creature refreshes the effect.
Turquoise (Wholeness): A creature within range, feels emotionally or physically complete for 1 minute. Casting again on the same creature refreshes the duration.
Cyan (Youth): A creature within range, feels 5 years younger for a week. Casting again on the same creature refreshes the duration.
Blue (Responsibility): A creature within range, may permanently gain a sense of purpose in life.
Purple (Power): A creature within range, temporary gains +1 magical damage for spells or weapons.
Pink (Passion): A creature within range, feels the need to fulfill its passions.
White (Purity): Deals 1d8 force damage to a non-good creature within range.
Black (Mystery): Hides an object or creature within range for 1 minute. Casting again on the same object or creature refreshes the duration.
This is still a work in progress but I thought asking for more heads to think up ideas for color theory abilities would be fun, if not helpful. The core idea behind the cantrip is something like Miss Goldenweek from One Piece or Rill Boismortier from Black Clover.
This is far more powerful than a cantrip. This is something more like a 3rd-level spell. And it is very I’ll-defined. It says “Purple (Power): A creature within range, temporary gains +1 magical damage for spells or weapons.” but never specifies how long “temporary” is.
I'm less concerned with the wording of the effects right now and more so want to determine if the themes of the effects are what need reworking.
I just slap-dashed the wording to give an idea about what they will do, obviously, Red/Health need a rework as +2 hp without a resource cost is OP, so maybe it should be Temp HP or it grants +2 max hp for a duration.
Purple/Power is overpowered with the current wording, but I can just add on that it lasts for a round and it only affects non-magical weapons. Also, adding a +1 to spells is nice but better used on the melee and ranged weapons, but some spells like Magic missile will still find this buff helpful in the late game. However, that is 2 actions for a +1 attack/damage buff that will only last for a round.
I should probably add a statement that all duration effects only last for the duration or until a new duration spell is cast from the list. So no Action/Action Surge/Hasting this bad boy.
Orange/Encouragement should be a valid spell as Heroism (a 1st level spell) works on 3 creatures, prevents them from being frightened, and adds +(spell mod) of temp hp that regens each round, while Orange only stops 1 creature from being frighted. However, maybe Orange should be balance, happiness, fun, heat, change, freedom, or expression?
