Feat Options currently only allow for Actions to be attached — this is true even of official feats, and is why feats like Fey Touched and Telekinetic have multiple versions for different ability score increases, for instance. If additional metadata like Modifiers and Spells could be attached to feat Options, then those feats could be created using Options rather than multiple versions.
I know you cannot give any promises or ETAs, but do you happen to know off hand if adding Modifiers, Spells, etc. to Feat Options is at all on the roadmap? Like, for example, I know that adding Actions to Magic Items is at least planned, even if it’s not on the current to-do list (or even near the top of the pile for future updates). I know it’s at least somewhere in the general vicinity of the pile. Is this even on a post-it on a dartboard full of post-it’s for things that might get added to the pile at some point?
I'd personally imagine that this (along with adding Actions to magic items, etc.) is likely all lumped together under a homebrew overhaul, which has been mentioned in the past as being an ideal goal. Take that with a grain of salt though, as I have no further knowledge about this, and I'm afraid there's really no other information outside of that vague guess.
thanks for chiming in. Really too bad that it doesn't work ATM.
And I honestly (and sadly) have not a lot of hopes for the Homebrew Overhaul.
It has been talked about for I don't know how long now, but DDB certainly seems plenty occupied already with integrating the official books and tinkering with the Encounter Builder (which hasn't seen any Update for some time either IIRC).
I have a bunch of things I'd like to include for my campaign, but simply can't ATM. (e.g. a feat that gives 5 feet blindsight multiplied by proficiency bonus, or a simple thing like a 1d8 slashing martial finesse weapon)
Yes, it will still use the Rapier for weapon proficiency. However, both the Rapier and the Saber were “martial weapons” in that one required extensive training to do well at all, and the other was a literal military blade. They would both qualify as fencing swords, there’s so much overlap I didn’t worry about it. (Besides, even WotC published the Boomerang that used Javelin proficiency.) 🤷♂️
Only the proficiency bonus. That setup should “Set [their] Base” Blindsight at PB, and then add 4×PB to that. 1PB+4PB=5PB. Presuming a 1st level Variant Human with PB 2 had that feat, theoretically it should have 10 ft. Blindsight. At 5th level it should be 15 ft., All the way up to 17th level with 30 feet of blindsight.
No, I cannot do that. I don’t work here, I just live here.
It is 2024 and it is still not available to attach anything other than action to an option. It is disgrace that even a simple modifier can't be attached to an option.
I was trying to create another feats like Shadow/Fey Touched but with other spells and schools of magic (e.g. Deity Touched). I know that there is a work-around (add a modifier right to the feat), but you know what: I want to make it pretty and clean; in result, I want to see full description and not just "Wisdom Score" in the Feats section of a PC.
If a modifier can be attached to a feat and an action can be attached to an option, it should be not that difficult to implement a possibility to attach the same modifier to an option.

Hey everyone!
I just tried to create a feat that allows you to select one of two different modifiers.
However, when adding an option to the feat, it only allows for Actions to be attached to an option?!
Am I missing something or is this an obvious bug/oversight?

Thanks, I appreciate it. (I’ll take a vague guess over a swift kick to the danglybits any day.)

The first might be doable….
That second one totally is, I called that a “Saber” and published a Saber, +1: (https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/1271954-saber-1)
Start with a rapier and simply add the following:
-Fin-
Edit: Yup, that first one should be doable like this:
That👆should work.

I did exactly that, but the DDB mechanics still count it as a rapier for proficiencies etc.
The other one I need to try. Thanks for the tipp!
But do you put range 5 for all the modifiers or only the prof bonus?
EDIT:
Also. Homebrew Caching drives me insane. Can you please remove a homebrew item from cache when a change was made?

Oooh! Now I get what you were doing with the proficiency bonus! I'll try that!
And the last line wasn't aimed at you. ;)
Thanks again for your assist!
For anyone trying to achieve the same thing:
Sadly, this isn't working. :(
I tried various iterations of your idea but non produce the desired result.
1) adding proficiency bonus to a sense range doesn't seem to be implemented/working correctly.
2) adding multiple modifiers of the exact same type seem to override each other. Only the last one has effect.
So thanks for the tipp @IamSposta, but it seems my player will have to manually modify the range whenever hes PB is increasing.
