I'm thinking in particular of one of the "major beneficial properties" suggested for artifacts in the DMG: "When you hit with a weapon attack while attuned to the artifact, the target takes an extra 1d6 damage of the weapon’s type."
Is there any way to do this when creating a homebrew magic item? In particular, I'm hoping to create a non-weapon homebrew magic item that nonetheless grants this ability to someone attuned to it. Specifically: I'd love it if an item would add the 1d6 of all weapon attack types (as described in the property) to an attuned character's Actions tab.
I don't think so. Homebrew items on dndbeyond usually only effect themselves. It is hard to add an extra damage dice to weapon attacks, especially from an artifact that grants that bonus to multiple weapons. Homebrewing an action that uses a d6 and just rolling that whenever you hit with a weapon attack is probably your best solution.
There's a bit of a way to do it. I was inspired by the Booming Blade spell, which inserts an added d8 thunder damage to the Notes of melee weapons.
For a magic item I put together as a "toggle" to represent the effects of the Enlarge spell, I homebrewed 2 spells as cantrips: one for adding a d4 to melee weapon attack damage, and one for adding a d4 to ranged weapon attack damage. With the item equipped, the weapons under attacks show "Enlarged: 1d4" in the Notes.
...Maybe I should just make a thread here about the technique I've devised.
You can add the damage to the weapon, but the dice roller is still only in the puppy stage and doesn’t know how to combine the rolls yet so it still has to be done as two separate rolls.

What Sposta said; but the modifier you're looking for is "Damage - Additional - 1 d6" to add 1d6 of the same damage type of a weapon.
Edit: Use "Damage - {weapon damage type} - 1 d6", "Damage - Additional" isn't available to magic weapons.
...Eck, that was my mistake! The "Damage - Additional" modifier is for spells not weapons; I must've been editing a spell when I looked that up.
The modifier you actually want is "Damage - Slashing" for a greatsword. Again, it won't be included in the dice roller, but it will be there in the Notes for your reference.

Actually, there are some weapons that do have it. The axe of the dwarven lords has it, for instance. I ended up using that to get the effect I was working on. Was just wondering why it was showing up some places and not others.
If so, then I suspect the modifier exists for magic weapons, but only devs can access it; that's why we can't select it when adding a modifier ourselves. It's cool that you were able to use the modifier by copying an official weapon that had it.
thats really good to know. in addition i want to ask something related to the OP. my DM doesnt use Beyond but is okay with me using it. he gave me a homebrew item that grants me an extra 2D6 for any fire attack i do. now, is there a way i can make the magic item ...(lack of a better phrasing)... self inserts (+2D6) next to the normal fire attacks stat? like so.... EG; Lvl2 - Hellish Rebuke - R1 - 60ft - dex16 - 3d10 + 2d6 fire. i hope that made sense there. you see, i have bad memory even if i write things down which i do. if its not mechanically showing the stats or whatever, i'll probably forget about it. yep, that means i made a lot of tiny homebrew items just to help me out, lol.

My only good homebrews: Races, Subclasses.
An aspiring DM and Homebrewer. Ask me if you need anything.
Sure, that'll get the job done. Thanks!

Why is this not available on some weapons?
Which some weapons in particular?

Well I was working on a homebrew greatsword and it wasn't showing up.
