I've fairly new to the whole dnd scene maybe been playing for few years now. But I'm a generally a player but i do also dm. But mainly I wanted to ask how to make archetype features that kind of stack. For example how the Path of the Totem Warrior Barbarian is set up for each say you choose bear for the first choice and then get more benefit if chose the same. Like i'm working on my interpretation of a spartan form the Halo series I would like to know how to go about and get that. I have currently have 4 base choices for weapons and level three and what I would like is at the next archetype feature is that previous choice gets buffed up but you are also allowed to make a second choice to be buffed at a later time and same with the first choice.
Thanks for the advice but had an idea that sort of took that idea out so it's going in a new direction. I appreciate you sharing the tips you have. Thank you!!

Those are accomplished with Options. There is a full walkthrough on how to properly set up subclass feature Options in the Subclasses & Races FAQ #1: (https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules/131411-a-homebrewers-how-to-faq). The improvements to the previous choices would be accomplished through “granted Options,” and the additional choice would just be regular Options.
