Dunamancy is a School of Magic that was homebrewed by Matthew Mercer. I know that since it is homebrew, it cannot be used in the Adventurer's League; however, it adds a depth to magic that wasn't there before. I know that because it is Matt's personal homebrew, it is up to him whether or not to make it public, but my question is this: if it ever does become public, will it be something that is available to everyone, seen in the character creator, or will it require a subscription and be treated as homebrew that can be added to the character creator? Or maybe added as an item that you can purchase from the market place and use forever after that?
Again, I know that whether it is added to D&D Beyond is up to Matt, this is just purely hypothetical.
If Matthew Mercer decided to publish his homebrew spells in the homebrew listings like he has done with some of his magic items, it would require a subscription. If it was released like the blood hunter or the gunslinger, it would be free to use but belong under the Critical Role category. If Mercer published Dunamancy on the DMs Guild or independently like the Tal'dorei campaign guide, it would have to appear on the Marketplace but D&D Beyond seems hesitant, or unable, to add third party content to the Marketplace.
But as of right now, none of this matters as Mercer has not released it in any format nor has DDB announced they would be distributing it. However, you can recreate these spells using the homebrew tools on DDB. Please don't publish these spells as that is against the publishing rules.
"The relevant equation is: Knowledge = power = energy = matter = mass; a good bookshop is just a genteel Black Hole that knows how to read." - Terry Pratchett
I'm guessing you'll have to wait until the compendium for this season is inevitably written and published. But seeing as the show is very openly sponsored by D&D Beyond at this point, the odds of it getting integrated to the site more than the previous campaign book are pretty high. It might even lead to options to homebrew original schools of magic, since they would have to include that for dunamancy.
