I am trying to create a magic item that has a number of charges based on a character's stat modifier. Specifically, a shield that can grant bonus AC to a nearby character a number of times equal to the wielder's COM modifier. The closest I have come is the snippet codes, but those obviously won't work as I am not working in the snippet box.
Magic Items are not designed (By WotC) to draw any stats from a character, so DDB didn’t design the Magic Item Creator to do that either. Same goes for Magic Items granting actions. So few of the official ones did that DDB didn’t add that function either. Also the original Character Sheet Framework was not originally designed to need that level of customization and interaction. They just redid the sheet, homebrewer is next I think, but it’s a massive job so that’ll be a little while.
Until they finish redesigning the homebrew creator, the only way I can think of would be to make it as a feat. You can add that specialized feature to that, only instead of adding it as an “action” add it as a “spell” and then instead of charges you can add set the “Uses by Ability Modifier” for Con. To facilitate that you would obviously have to create that feature as a 1st-level spell. And if you don’t want it to be useable by whatever random class list you assigned it, after it attaches to the item you’ll need to remove the spell from your “collection.” (I know that’s a lot of work for 1 workaround, but it’s the best I got for you. Sorry.)
Happy to help. (Remember to re-save the whole feat after you attach the spell! It might not seem to work right away, but that doesn’t mean it won’t. With all of the recent system updates things are a little less immediate than they used to be.) *It might even be possible to use Modifier—>Feat; Modifier Subtype—>[name of feat] to attach that feat you create directly to the Magic Item. (Afterwards, remember to re-save the whole Magic Item!) I don’t know if it will work, but it’s worth a shot.* If it doesn’t seem to work right away then it might just be a caching issue with the browser and not an actual glitch, so maybe try waiting overnight and see if the new info pushes to the character sheet.

That's infinitely better than the nothing I had. Thank you very much for the assistance.
