I am making a weapon that is essentially an arm mounted hand crossbow that shoots rocks (basically the slinger from monster hunter). I used the Hand Crossbow as a base, and applied the modifier to replace the damage type with bludgeoning, but changing the damage die in that same screen does absolutely nothing. I am trying to change it from a d6 to a d4, but it never shows up on my character sheet. It took me deleting and remaking the item for the bludgeoning to appear in the first place on the character sheet. Am I doing something wrong, or is this not the way this is supposed to work?

You can change the damage type, but not the damage die. There is no way to change it from 1d6 to 1d4. You would do better to base it off of a Sling if you want a 1d4 damage die. However, you will not be able to change the ranges for the sling.
