I have looked it up and found that you need to add a feature called Spellcasting. However when I do this nothing happens. I am very confused and just want to homebrew this subclass.

Under “basic information,” directly below the “multiclass description” field there are a few fields that also need to be filled out:
Spellcasting Ability: (need to pick one)
Can Cast Spells: (needs to be yes)
Additional Spell List: (if you want them to have access to an entire class’s spell list you have to list it here)
Spell Prepared Type:
Knows All Spells: (no)
Additional Specific Spells: (if you want them to have access to specific spells they get listed here)
There are really only 4 classes this works on: Barbarian, Fighter, Monk, and Rogue. Barbarians do not do well with Spellcasting. That leaves the other three. The easiest way for a fighter is to use the Eldritch Knight as a template since most of the work is already done for you, same goes for Arcane Trickster as a template for Rogues. And Way of the Four Elements is the one to use as a template for Monks and they do not need the “Spellcasting” feature since they use Ki instead of spell slots.
Thanks for the advice I think I figured it out. I do have another question, I have class feature that I want to be able to allow the user to cast a spell at will with a limited number of charges per short rest. Is there a way to do this without just writing in the description?

As part of the class feature, add the spell and set set the number of uses and the “Number of Uses” and set the “Reset Type” to Short Rest.

I hope that was helpful.
