I have a homebrew subclass that allows a PC to use their bonus action to poison their attacks, providing an additional 1d10 poison damage the next time they attack. Is there a way to code this into homebrew? That when the bonus action is used, the sheet automatically is updated with an additional 1d10 for the attacks and then disappears once an attack is made?
You could do this as an action on the sub-class; this is how Sneak Attack is handled by the Rogue class.
Just add an action with the general type, set the damage die and size and damage type, set the activation as bonus action, and add a short description in snippet if you'd like to set a reminder of how it works. I think you should be able to leave everything else blank.
This way the player will see your snippet under Actions, and they'll also see a "Poison Blade" or whatever entry with rollable damage that they can just click whenever they want to roll the bonus damage. i.e- it'll still be up to them (and the DM) to remember when to actually make the extra roll, but they can at least have it as a clickable action to roll it.
Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
I have unsubscribed from all topics and will not reply to messages. My homebrew is now 100% unsupported.

No. Temporary effects such as that are not supported at this time. They are planned for future however.
