I've been DMing ERFLW with my group for a while now (from lv. 1 - 8 so far), who really enjoy the theme of the setting.
The party includes two artificers- one a battle smith, the other an alchemist. Alchemist felt kinda bad about the character's contributions to the party (I know, I know, it doesn't help the group has two members of the same class- game wasn't made with that in mind). We agreed to buff Experimental Elixir;
They get their free elixirs after a short or long rest. After a short rest they roll on the Experimental Elixir table. After a long rest they can choose the elixir's effect. Elixirs last till drunk or next short rest
By expending a spell slot they can; make an additional elixir of choice as usual OR grant a creature they touch a chosen effect from the table as an action.
I haven't felt the need to homebrew for 5e much. Any thoughts/feedback or examples of parties with characters of the same class and how you handled it?
My houserule was that they could use their free elixirs/LR to not only create a random elixir, but also to maintain an elixir that is already made. That way, they don’t get more elixirs, but they do get more control over them since they can spend spell slots the day before to get exactly what they want for the next day as long as they still have the spell slots to spend. The other thing I did was give Alchemists their own special version of the Homunculus:
