I recently finished making a hombrew subclass but when I tried to community share it, the homebrew had a message stating that "This homebrew Subclass has data mapped to it that is licensed content or private homebrew. This typically occurs when licensed or private homebrew spells are linked to the Subclass."
The thing is, I don't know what this means. I've made homebrew subclasses in the past that used licensed spells and this wasn't an issue. It doesn't help that I don't know what specific "data" is causing the issue. If I could receive some clarification on this and suggestions on how to rectify the issue, I would greatly appreciate it.
If you attached any of the free access licensed spells, you can publish no problem. Those include anything from the Basic Rules & SRD, and anything from Elemental Evil Player’s Companion. If you attached any spells that were published in any other Sourcebook, but not also published in those free access sourcebooks, the. You will not be allowed to publish it.
(All of the spells published in BR&SRD were also published in the PHB, but that is only half of the PHB spells, the other half are not free content. All of the spells from EEPC were also published in Xanathar’s, but again, the other half of the spells in Xanathar’s are ineligible.)
The full list of official spells that we can attach to homebrew and still publish can be found here, if any of the spells you attached are not on this list, those would be the source of your issue:
PS- Friendly advice: If you have only just finished writing the subclass, do yourself a favor and finish playtesting and editing it before publishing so you can avoid giving yourself the headache of having to create new version and republishing.
Thanks for the insight into the possible issue. Seems odd that the publishing of homebrew would be limited by something seemingly as minor as official spells not coming frome Source A or B but I'll review the link to see if there are discrepancies.
And the subclass is currently in play at my table and seems to work to tbe player's satisfaction so I'm not worried in that regard.
The spells we can use are the ones published for free that everyone can use. The ones that are restricted are the ones that have to be paid for so not everyone can use them.
