So with the addition of dunamancy magic, as a tag I was wondering if there are ways to similarly classify homebrew spells. Example, say I port over a number of psionic spells/cantrips from 3e/pathfinder or the dweomer cantrips from 1e, is there a way to create a new subgroup or tag for them so they can be bundled together?
Tags aren’t really “groupings “ like that. They just make it easier to search for what you want. In the case of your example, “psionic” is already an existing tag.
I became aware of the Psionic tag after posting so that is my bad, but does that mean I can't add a new tag. Dunamancy is a tag that does reflect a grouping of spells (though they are from differing schools), my question was whether or not there is a way to add custom tags that do work that way?
Long story short I'm working on a Cantrip based campaign, and there are a lot of cantrips divided by differing groups from the history of D&D. The earliest of which I call Dweomers (because a lot of early 1e magic refers to dweomer as a magical color radiateded by magic usage), but I would like to create a tag that helps set them apart from traditional more powerful cantrips.
Other cantrips (specifically from pathfinder) use a number of word spells or power words (kind of like a shout in Skyrim), I was hoping to add a tag to denote such spells as a group
No, we cannot create tags, only the DDB Devs can and they have their hands full keeping this website running, they cannot take personally requests for homebrew stuff on a case by case basis.
The Dunamancy spells are not a specific grouping. As you said, they are all from different schools of magic. Those schools are the actual groupings. Like I said, tags don’t represent groupings of things, they just supply a list of keywords associated with those spells (or whatever) to make our lives easier by letting us use them as advanced filters to narrow the search. In reality, they only actually apply to this website, not D&D as a whole. Those spells don’t actually have any tags whatsoever in either the print or digital versions of the rule books.
What you could do is make a Barbarian subclass with the Spellcasting feature, and name that subclass “Dweomer.” (I suggest Barbarian since nobody in their right mind would ever accidentally try to use that Subclass since it would likely be a pile of hot garbage.) That way, you could have those spells appear on the “Dweomer Spell List.” Then, simply remove that subclass from your collection to make it impossible for anyone to ever accidentally find it, but those spells would still list “Dweomer” as one of the Spell Lists upon which they appear.
