Basically, I simply want to make a ring that gives +1 to damage and attack rolls for nonmagical weapons (and unarmed strikes). How would I go about doing this?
Make a copy of a plus one sword or other weapon. Replace the item type with ring. Done. (This should work. If it doesn't, IamSposta will tell me. I swear he knows everything to do with homebrew on this site).

This is a good idea, but unfortunately it's not giving any sort of boost to unarmed strikes. What options would I need to add to give it +1 to unarmed attack rolls and damage?

Unfortunately, as far as I know there is no programming to do that at the moment. However, you can simply add a +1 to attack and damage rolls for your unarmed strikes directly on the character sheet.
I was simply stating that you are very good with homebrew. I should probably make a thread to give you thanks when you helped everyone.... If you want.

I wouldn’t object but it is by no means necessary. I’m just trying to help people in the comunity is all. I’m just glad to know that I have helped.
It turns out that 'Natural Attacks' is how you affect the scores of your unarmed strikes. If you put in 'Natural Attacks' under both 'Bonus' and 'Damage' it will give you +1 to attack and damge rolls with unarmed strikes.

Thanks for the help and feedback! Trying to do something else now: is there any way to make a magic item alter the damage dice you use for unarmed strikes?

I’m not sure. I don’t think so but as it’s been proven I don’t know everything. You could try using the same modifier you used for the +1, but I think that might just add the damage.
Also, I just tried out your Modifier and I have a question: did you use “Natural Attacks” or “Unarmed Attacks?” It appears that “Unarmed Attacks” gives the bonus to Unarmed Strikes, but “Natural Attacks” is also a thing. I wonder if that one specifically also includes natural weapons such as Tabaxi claws as well, or if it does something different.
I'm not sure, the way I found out the natural attacks thing was by purchasing (and then copying) Insignia of Claws from Hoard of the Dragon Queen and seeing what enchantments were on that.

I think I'd have to make a versatile weapon?
I can tell you how to do it with a feat because those can add actions. It wouldn’t actually change the die of the unarmed strike, but it would add an alternative unarmed strike with a different damage die.
That's helpful, but for the sake of clarity (and so I can learn how to do it right) I'd like to try and make it as close to correct as possible. Having all the item's benefits be tied to the item will be helpful in the long run, I think.
Would you know how to simply make a versatile weapon in homebrew? I can use that as a base.

Start with any preexisting weapon and add:
Modifier—>Weapon Property
Subtype—>Versatile
If you pick a 1d4 weapon, the versatile would be 1d6. Start with a d6 weapon and versatile will go to 1d8.

Is there any way to copy a friend's homebrew item to use as a template?
Not yet no. But I can talk you through it. What exactly are you trying to create? Please be specific and I will tell you how I would do it at least.
