The mutating gene spreads throughout many inconscient generations, slightly, ever so slightly, changing the size of their brains. Development begins to happen, and it's no surprise --- human brains are much larger than they were only a little while ago. Things happen, and soon humans are building. We've made small civilizations, and the likes of the Byzantines and Mesopotamians are sprouting up.
I build a farm near what is to be, someday, Rome. Naming my farm "Romia" (definitely a coincedence), I then tell all my friends to come to the area.
