All stars fade. Some stars forever fall. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Homebrew (Mostly Outdated):Magic Items,Monsters,Spells,Subclasses ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If there was no light, people wouldn't fear the dark.
Nothing in particular. Soldaer chuckles quietly, both aloud and telepathically. Not even entirely sure how I got here. I was chasing a band of marauding orcs away from my village, adn then there was a sudden flash of light. I blacked out, and when I came to, I was outside the Tavern here.
Are you a paladin of some kind?
No. I'm a Ranger of Mielikki and a Druid of Eilistraee. Part of my job as such is to protect my people, and anyone else for that matter, from those creatures, whether sentient or not, that would do them harm.
Protecting your people against anyone? What if your people started the conflict?
Just about anyone, or anything. We are a peaceful people, but not to be trifled with. That being said, we are rarely, if ever the aggressors in any conflict.
Interesting take. How do you feel about fiends?
A deep sigh comes over the telepathic link. Depends on the fiend. Most are evil through and through in my world, having been created by a deity who is literally the embodiment of hate. Some can be reasoned with, but most can't. In other worlds though, it again depends on the fiend. Demons are most often wholly unreasonable, wanting only to destroy, while devils can most certainly be bargained and reasoned with,
Demons aren't so bad. Depends on the demon though. I know a few decent ones.
Hmmm.... you must have had very different dealings with demons than me.
*Looks like everyone else is gone bro, though if you're still in the mood I'm down for rp.*
Krathian is focusing on a small, potted birch tree in front of him like yesterday. The leafless tree's gray knots stare out over the tavern like unblinking eyes as its branches appear to have grown in strangely sharp patterns. Sweat stands out on Krathian's brow as he stares intently at the glorified shrub. Slowly, but still much more fast than is normal, another branch grows out of the base at a perfect 45 degree angle, on which the same eerie knots are present. Krathian sits back in his chair, with a satisfied look on his face. Q'ilbrith notices from across the bar and claps both hands and all eight tentacles together in triumph, which results in a strange slap/squish sound. "Nice job, Krathian." Krathian nods by way of response, he appears to have experienced serious exertion.
Jim is chilling with Scrum, petting him gently and singing softly.
The golden-eyed man has ceased stalking the grounds and is currently writing on a piece of hide parchment in the main room.
*Timewarp time, lol!*
Soldaer walks over to Krathian. "I don't believe we've properly met. The name's Soldaer Torrae, Ranger of Mielikki and Druid of Eilistraee. Couldn't help but notice this rather...unique piece of...shrubbery you're working on. What exactly is it you are doing to that tree?"
He mops sweat off of his brow, and doesn't bother to look at or greet Soldaer. "Krathian." he says abruptly (He's going through a tough time,) "It's a mathas tree, growth responds to psychic energy. This one was tough to direct. I'm exercising."
"Interesting. Can't say I've heard of a mathas tree, but I am familiar with psionics. I myself am not that much of a practitioner, although I do have the ability to speak telepathically," He says, switching over fluidly in mid sentence.
"Fascinating. Not many are able to do so fluidly, all I get from most who try to communicate is jumbled sensations, and most are only able to do so in short bursts."
Indeed. It took many years of practice to master this, but considering I'm a full elf, I've had the time. Soldaer chuckles quietly at this. It also help me communicate with Shade, my companion. Speaking of whom... SHADE! Come on over here!
Krathian patiently awaits the arrival of Shade.
Shortly, a large panther-like beast comes sprinting over, weaving between the various patrons and furniture deftly. Shade is about 5 ft tall at the shoulder, and 14 feet long from snout to tail. Two foot-long saber teeth protrude from her mouth, a mane of quills extend from behind her head to just above her shoulders, and single wicked barb that looks like some sort of stinger extends from the tip of her tail.
Krathian nods respectfully, "Hello Shade."
Greetings Krathian. Shade's voice is deep, but obviously feminine, as she pads over towards Krathian, gently (for a 900 lb feline) bumping into him affectionately.
Seems that she likes you, Krathian. Soldaer is smiling.
"Good to hear." he says without any real mirth. A black-skinned Illithid with white eyes walks over.
"Who's the fur-walker?"
Soldaer's eye widen temporarily at the sight of an illithid, although he quickly recovers. Greetings, Illithid. It has been a long time since I last saw one of your kind.
Before Soldaer has time to explain who she is, Shade turns to the mind flayer, a low growl coming from deep in her throat. I choose to ignore the insult. My name is Shade. I'm a Saberbeast from the Feywild, and Soldaer's companion for many years.
Krathian glares at Q'ilbrith. "Please ignore my companion, that is how he refers to all beings with whom he is not acquainted. He is not an Illithid by nature, merely a cephalopod familiar called a Q'aba. However, we spent a short time in exile on the plane of mirrors, and it warped him as you see him today. He doesn't eat brains - I assure you - he feeds off of my psychic energy, being composed of simply thought and shadow given material form."
Soldaer calms considerably at this, as does Shade. A Q'aba? I have not heard of such an entity, although it sounds rather... intriguing. The Plane of mirrors sounds familiar, although I have not been there myself.
Krathian pulls out a pipe and takes a short drag off of it. "Its never the same for two different people, the plane is so vast and changes so often its different every time you visit. In the mirrors, you see different...versions of whatever foreign beings or matter are reflected in them. I was imprisoned in the mirrors for a while, while I managed to escape warping my companion did not entirely. Still, a bipedal form has its... advantages. I'll change Q'il back whenever he likes, but he hasn't asked me yet. Besides, he's learned he can do more with his sharp tentacles..." He rolls up his jacket sleeve, "...such as this." Each of his is covered in a sleeve tattoo of strange, foreign-looking runes in neat columns.
And doesn't everyone have different dealings with them they are not all the same right?
*Yep. btw, welcome to the tavern. We use asterisks for out of character talk, no one can be harmed in the tavern though that usually doesn't stop us, and italics are for telepathy when it comes up. I'm Alaric, nice to meet you*
*I think Phantom was in the middle of a convo with Oval and Albwin.*
Soldaer is sitting at the bar, drink his usual: Feywine.
Shade is walking throughout the crowd, enjoying the occasional pat on the head or scratch behind the ears.
(1. Can he sense unusual things?)
2. Avery grabs a mug, singing with a bunch of other people
*Like what? He has a 25 passive perception, so possibly*
*Something like the paladin's divine sense*
*Nope. Just very observant, without the observant feat, lol*
*Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, i can work with that*'
Soldaer can feel something, unattural, outside the tavern towards the back
A chill goes down Soldaer's spine, but he seems more curious and cautious than anything. Shade, come with me. He says telepathically so as to not disturb the other patrons. Shade comes bounding over, and they exit the tavern to investigate.
Investigation/religion check
*alright. Investigation: 27*
Its eerily quiet, like all the life outside the tavern has been silenced. The only noises coming from anywhere other than back inside, is the sound of metal against metal behind the tavern
Soldaer looks over at Shade. Be ready for anything, he says, drawing his weapons, but keeping the light from his rapier off. He and Shade then walk cautiously around back behind the tavern.
If they try and go stealthly, make a stealth check. If not: They see someone attacking a metal creature with a warpick. They seem to be doing a basic training, but something seems off about them
*For stealth check, Soldaer cast Pass Without Trace using his innate magic, so an additional +10 to both of them. Stealth: 33 for Soldaer, and 36 for Shade.*
*Yep, that passes their max possible*
The person doesn't notice them as they continue beating the automaton
Soldaer and Shade approach the person cautiously, observing them for any signs of instability.
They seem like a normal human besides the unnatural purple glow coming from their eyes, which reflect in the robot's bronze carapace.
Soldaer finally breaks the silence. "You seem rather intent on beating the crap out of the automaton."
They freeze up for a moment, "Jesus-" They quickly turn around, "Who the heck are you??" They ask. Their eyes are black, except for their pupils, which are purple
Soldaer sheathes his weapons. "The name's Soldaer, and this is Shade." Shade gives a semi-friendly growl, as though she's still not entirely sure what to make of this new person.
"Um.... i'm" They look down at their hand for a moment, "Ah, right, i'm Azazel." He says, nodding
"It's a pleasure to meet you Azazel." Soldaer nods politely. "My question does remain though, why were you so intent on beating the crap out of that automaton? It won't take any damage while it's in range of the blessing."
"Makes a good punching bag. Never know when you'll need to kill someone who attacks you in this place."
Soldaer nods. "I understand the need to practice, although I usually use the target dummies out front."
"Needed something a bit sturdier. Those got a bit to beat up...."
"Understandable. They didn't exactly make those the sturdiest. Maybe we should see if there's an artificer here who can enhance those dummies. I could use something that can at least simulate a live opponent; You know, 'fight back' and all..." Soldaer's voice trails off as he ponders the possibilities.
