Avery walks over to whoever seems to have the most valuable item on them, and trys to take it without bothering to be stealthy
*How hard do they look for valuables? Just a glance, or an inspection?*
*Inspection*
A tiny sphere of intricately overlapping metal bands is on the end of a thin chain hanging from Avarice's neck.
Avery walks over, grabs the sphere, pulls hard enough to break the chain, and [GP]ing runs
Avery runs into a wall. "Give it back."
*See through?*
*Solid adamantine.*
"How the?" Avery is confused
"Give it back. A box forms around Avery, with a barred window facing Avarice."
"Give what back?" Avery asks, hiding the sphere behind him
*Detect magic?*
*The whole area of the spell is radiating illusion magic.*
"Ya think I'm stupid, ya pikin' berk?" Avarice's voice changes to a bizzare accent.
"I'm a what?" Avery asks, tilting his head
"Kaincha! Give me the sphere, abr."
"Sir, ma'am, common please."
*Only a third of it was in other languages.* "Give it back and I'll let you out."
"Give what back?"
You know as well as I do what you stole, Avery.
No......
A low rumble rattles throughout Avery's mind. Give. It. Back. NOW!!
*Make a Wisdom Saving Throw. (Frightful Presence from a Dragon)*
*Coincidentally, avery is immune to frightened for the same reason he's immune to charmed.*
You aren't my dad!
*Let's try this then, lol*
NOW!!!!
*Intimidation check: 28*
*I..... you do know intimidation isn't mind control right?*
*But still: 22*
N-no. I want it
*I'm aware, Sheer telepathic intensity, and this little tibit:*
This plays through Avery's mind: The reflection of a massive dragon glides over a wooded lake. The dragon has polished black scales with silver highlights along the spine, eyebrows, shoulders, and the edges of the "arms" that its wings are on. Instead of the usual forward-pointing horns most black dragons have, it's horns point backwards, and are curled halfway along their length, doing a complete circle that leads to a slightly-upward pointing tip. It's head is more akin to the shape of a Green or Topaz Dragon's, and a row of curved, almost needlelike spines, run from the top of its head to about a third of the way down its tail. On the end of its tail, where the tip should be, is instead a blade that seems to be made out of the dragon's own bone. It's eyes are a deep green color, almost like a pine tree's needles when viewed at twilight.
It quickly leaves the lake behind, and turns invisible, as its shadow disappears. A massive stone temple quickly approaches, and the main doors suddenly melt under a barrage of acid. The dragon's shadow reappears as it's invisibility expires, and it begins to utterly destroy the cultists in the courtyard of the temple. Once those cultists are either dead or fleeing, the dragon moves on to the temple itself, tearing a massive hole in the wall where the doors had been, and proceeds to slaughter those cultists in the temple itself. An adult red Dragon rises up from an underground chamber, and starts fighting the dragon assaulting the temple, but dies in a matter of minutes, half its tail gone, wings melted, and other brutal wounds covering its body. In a few more minutes, the temple is nothing but rubble, with only a couple score cultists escaping the slaughter.
The voice returns once more, a hard edge to it. I'm giving you one more warning. Return it now!
*Sorry if that's a little graphic, but I toned it down from what's playing in my mind. Also, second intimidation check: 37*

Avery doesn't respond. If phantom can see him, he's curled up in the adamantine box, starting to cry
*He has Truesight, and something like a 32 Passive Perception, so he can at least hear Avery crying*
The voice softens a little. Look, Avery, just return the orb, and you can leave that cell, and nothing will happen to you. Those cultists in that memory I shared are deserved my wrath: they slaughter villages and sacrifice women and children to chromatic dragons in order to attempt to free their demonic goddess from the void. Give the orb back, and prove you aren't worthy of my anger, Avery.
Avarice hears avery banging on the walls of the box, seeming to be crying, "Please, i'm sorry! Just let me out! I'll give it back! Just please..... i don't like the dark...."

Thank you, Avery. As long as you don't try and run, you'll have nothing to worry about. I'm usually a very kind dragon, but I don't stand for stealing, or any kind of injustice against innocents.

Avery has his head buried in his hands, the orb laying as far away from him as he could get it
You. Stay out of his head if you're going to torture him.

*First off, someone from outside the conversation can't read the telepathy unless they're intimately linked to Avery's or Phantom's mind. I'll RP like that's the case, and I'll assume I'm dealing with Avery's patron now.*
Phantom's eyes narrow. If you knew who I was, you'd know it wasn't my intention to "torture" him at all. My only intention was to frighten him into giving the orb back.

*Fun thing is, this would be in line with Phantomizakell's personality. He's a chaotic good alignment, and willing to do almost whatever is necessary to do what needs done.*
Phantom's eyes narrow further, and a slight growl spices his response. I did what I thought needed to be done. Yes, I may have crossed a line, but I can't undo what's been done, and from what I've gathered, this isn't the first time he's tried something so...brash. In fact, he tried something similar to a close friend of a close friend of mine named Egrien, and Egrien nearly killed him, albeit unintentionally. Yes, I may have scarred Avery, but he won't soon forget the lesson, now will he? That is, unless you have the kind of power to undo what I did, which even I would be surprised at.

Very well. As I said, I never meant to "torture" Avery in any way. I meant to scare him, and yes, I crossed a line. I will do what I can to undo, or at least minimalize, the damage this incident wrought, but can make no promises as to its effectiveness. Will that go further to proving my word and my truthfulness?

*Avarice is built entirely around limiting movement and the charmed and frightened conditions, and her strength is horrible.*
*That sounds good. I was not ready to deal with someone immune to being charmed.*
*Nah, it's fun! Remember our first roleplay Alaric? Avery stole Egrien's staff, and nearly died? Good times, right? :D ;)*
*But that's the point here! You have to adapt to new situations in the Tavern, such as a thief who can't be charmed into returning his loot!
*Then limit his movement :D*
*You currently have avery in a (Potentially teleport proof, wink, wink, nudge, nudge) metal box he can't break through*

*Yep, thats his patron speaking :D*
By showing him, basically a child, the horrific scene of you slaughtering people with acid.

Unfortunately, i cannot remove those memories. Even if i could, i made a promise not to tamper with his mind. Their voice grows angry, a threatening tone lingering, But if you do something like that again to my warlock, i will step in, personally.

*Just curious, but who is Avery's patron? I'm guessing it's someone in the Tavern, yes? If you don't want to tell me, that's fine.*
They sigh, Yes. Thank you for recognizing my concern phantom.

Of course, but how did you know my name? I don't even think Avery knows it yet. Phantom's voice betrays his obvious confusion.
Its not like i'm locked in his head. Even those who are of lesser power could get your name with a little digging.
