Just a simple 4 level build for a tau fire warrior. In the lore tau fire warriors are range focused foot soldiers trained to defend their teammates. Their tactical philosophy called the code of fire favors range, maneuverability, technology and diplomacy.
Race: half elf, Background: soldier
Class is where the fun begins. taking 4 levels of artificers and the subclass artilierest. The infusions would be Repeating shots to represent their technological superiority and the Hummuncales to act as a drone stand in. Cantrips being mending for the drone and the guidence cantrip to act as a marker light. Marker lights in warhammer are a targeting laser to improve units shooting. The feat I would take is the prodigy feat.
I created an XV25 as a Vedalkin Armorer Artificer with the Infiltrator armor. The Lightning Launcher makes a great burst cannon/fusion blaster (depending on how you wanna skin it).

Question -- did you stick pure Artificer, or did you multiclass?
Had this same thought for a build, but when I got to looking at Feats at level 4 I happened to see Martial Adept, which prompted me to look through the Battle Master's Maneuvers. Seeing the options on the list, and only getting to pick 2... I'm wondering if multiclassing into Fighter might be the better idea and actually picking Battle Master. You get all the swanky multi-attack nonsense from Fighter, fitting thematically with a Cyclic Ion Blaster. But the Maneuvers also give you interesting options to do all the sort of things that an advanced scout and disruption unit like a Stealth Suit would do.
Although I suppose that would make it the XV22 Battlesuit, since that can be equipped with the same stealth field as the XV25 (at least in Dawn of War it could).

The Armorer already gets Extra Attack at 5th level and it wouldn’t stack with the same feature from Fighter. I actually dipped Rogue for Arcane Trickster for the extra Sneak Attack damage and Cunning Action.

Tau are almost nothing like half-elves. If you're opposed to homebrewing the race, I agree with Sposta - the least bad fit is Vedalken.
Well Vedalken is a good choice, but I don't own the book.
