A large, deep blue beast with black ram's horns is sleeping in the woods, its belly swollen and some stuffing stuck in its dagger-like teeth. They all immediately recognize the being as a fiend of some sort, but it would take a History check to determine what it is.

Sylvan draws his spear as he holds his hands up to stop the pups path. He whispers something in celestial to them as they move to circle the beast, staying behind the tree line but within eyesight of each other.
This is an entity known as The Beast, which is a simple name for an incredible creature. It is sapient, and strangely nonviolent despite being an embodiment of evil. Its motives are unknown, but it seems to appear around major tragedies and desperate times. Whether it's drawn to them or it causes them is ambiguous.
It coughs and stands up. It hacks up some expensive-looking toys, all brand new. Then it chuckles. "Well, well... hunters. You remind me of mortalkind. If you are going to kill me, you might as well save us the time and do it quickly." It stretches and yawns, looking very doglike in the process. "It's not going to matter in the long run."
Mother misery is taking a break from being a doctor, having just cured someone of a broken arm. Her left harm, despite being completely covered by her sleeve and glove, is hideously mangled. She is sitting at a table, a cup of tea in front of her, despite the fact she doesn’t seem to eat or drink.
Vanilla is outside, making a snowman. It’s made out of sugar, with chocolate eyes and a candy corn nose.
Felix is making cubed spaghetti and deep-frying it with tempura batter.
The Neighbor is standing in a dark corner of the tavern, grinning in the half-light. (He basically looks like an analogue horror monster when he's not in bright light.)
The Magus is putting on quite the performance, calling down a solar flare, capturing it, and using it to light a bonfire.
The Beast is sleeping in the woods, its belly swollen with Christmas toys it ate off the shelves in an attempt to make parents desperate enough to fight over the remaining stock.

She suddenly smells the air getting sweeter, floral fragrance filling the air despite it being a time for plants to hide or die. She hears a raspy voice in her ear "I thought I smelled another creature of my kind here .."
It nods, smiling. "Someone's been reading well. Don't worry, I'm not here to bring bad luck or anything. I just want to help. We've borne witness to many plagues, and we know how they spread."
"Oh, I'm not going to do anything. But once the guests go home, the game is over. Odds are, no matter who they are, they'll skip town the instant it won't look suspicious for them to do so. You need to increase the... pressure. How you do that is completely up to you, though. I'm just the messenger." It laughs and walks back to the couch, tail thumping against it every few seconds.
"I just know these things. I'm a magician, so I have to be well-versed in what I can and should do with my power."
“And there’s no catch?”
she sighs, the sword turning into water vapor. “So… what you’re saying is either I-... I catch them by the time the ball ends, or I close the borders to and from the court?” She says, her voice a bit shakey.
“Mm… but yeah, all of that would be nice… and a blanket, too…”
"Why would there be?" It pulls out a small, triangular stone with a hole in the middle. "You know who I am. All I ask is that you give it back once you're done. I know it might take a bit, but I just want to know that some time in the future when someone else needs it I can give it to them."
"An interesting conclusion." It yawns. "You've got clever, powerful people trying to hurt others, and you plan on trapping them here with yourself and hundreds if not thousands of other innocent people? Interesting. Interesting. You realize that this whole debacle will damage your standing with the court if you don't handle it perfectly?"
"I've got something for that." It reaches under its robes and removes a soft, clean, lavender blanket. "This was made using the same enchantment as a 'cloak of the happy cat.' It's warm, dry, and clean, and it always will be so long as you don't throw it into a volcano. That's about the most it can handle before being unable to mend itself. I make them for my students when they stay overnight."
“Thank you… I will. Will you be around here for a while?”
she falters, shaking a bit. “I-… It was probably the Mercier Twins… the magicians, they’re still at the party… it’s not a big deal… it’s not a big deal… It’ll be… out of my hands before the night is over… I-I have more important things to do than this... I’ll tell the guards to arrest the twins… and that’ll be that…” she says, like she’s trying to reassure herself more than the beast. She sits down on her bed, looking at her hands.
he yawns. “Mm… thanks… I could sleep forever and ever and ever…”

Sylvan comes out of his hiding spot with spear in hand. “I agree. Fenrir, the point of a surround ambush is that he doesn’t know where we are. Even if they say they know where we are, stay hidden in case they are pretending.” He turns to The Beast and bows. “I apologize for the children. I’ve only taken them on a few hunts as of now. And we’ve never met a benevolent being of their power before on one.”
