"Thanks, but.... why?" He turns to "look" at Brand.
"Eh, you look different and different people are pretty cool in my book"
"Heh. Most people don't see it that way."
He opens the door to where his eyes should be, instead revealing two pools of solid lead.
"Hm" he said, studying his eyes "Interesting indeed! how did you get them?"
The figure chuckles, a wheezing, rasping sound.
"It took almost no effort at all! Just a little legwork... in the wrong direction."
"ahhh. an accident" he said and chuckled
"Yes... an accident."
"You say that it wasn't"
"This kind of thing doesn't happen by accident, I'm afraid."
"Whatcha do then?" He asked, ordering himself a whiskey
"Ran."
"You ran?" he said, turning his head to him "Lets me tell you from experience that running is not the best solution"
"But you didn't see it! They had stone juggernauts reinforced with steel! If you tried to dig down to hide from the juggernauts, their war mages would get you. I did the only sensible thing. Unfortunately, my troop, at least the three or four who survived, said that I left them to die. Now, in hindsight, I probably should have found a place to hide closer to the battlefield."

The stranger removes his helmet, revealing his mangled, burned head. He has an eye carved into his forehead, a wound that hasn't healed but isn't bleeding. By all accounts, he shouldn't be alive.
"Sure." The eye glows yellow, and suddenly you are transported to the battlefield.

Brand in the real world falls unconscious but in the mind he walks around the battlefield
*Sorry, I meant metaphorically transported, so that's what happens.*
Brand is standing in the middle of what was most likely a nice neighborhood at some point, but the war had transformed it. The aforementioned Iron Juggernauts roll through, crashing buildings as if they were nothing. War mages throw fireballs by the tens as if they could keep going all day, all of them wearing fists full of spell refueling rings. Dead monsters and soldiers litter the ground. There's fire everywhere, and no healers to be seen. At least, no living ones.
Brand sees a soldier running the wrong way as his teammates shout at him to come back and fight, before being cut off by the sudden appearance of oil flowing into their hiding space.

Brand watches with a stone cold face, watching the slaughter happen.

Zac does as well.
"Good morning Zac, I'd tip my hat but the patches have been flaying recently and thus, any movement may cause the whole thing to crumble." He titters, "Aside from the unconscious drunk in the middle, what's going on?"
Screamer is in his room carving something into one of his trees. And the door is open. He's not worried about any danger right now.
Drake strolls bye, whistling, and then stops and looks into the room. "Evenin, Screamer."
"Evening to you, Drake. I'm glad you didn't have to blow us all to the Astral Plane earlier. Over some Orange Juice." He keeps carving. "What time of day might it be?"
