hello, I am asking if anyone knows about some really obscure mythology?
Please Define Obscure, lol.
Thus far, everything mentioned here is pretty obscure to some groups, for example.
We could talk about the underlying aspects of the PIE pantheon, whose nature and structure influenced most of the Eurocentric pantheons (and often how others are forced into convenient little boxes to match or line up with them), but how actual names and true natures are lost because, well, you know, 30,000 years ago and all that.
We could talk about some of the Ainu mythology which would be obscure to me, but not necessarily for them.
The differences between Lakota and Chippewa and Cherokee and Navajo have all become of interest of late among folklorists, but that doesn't always work well for some folks.
(sorry, specifically my education consists of a PhD in Sociology, a Masters in Psychology, and a master's in Religion, (alongside a smattering of Bachelors because I did not want to leave college way back in the day) which is very much comparative and anthropological in many ways. My biggest challenge is often finding accessible documentation and such for the general "layperson", for lack of a better term so that I can use it stuff like this.)
Which, of course, is why i popped in, lol.
sorry! I meant the kind of mythologies that aren't really well known in pop culture, think things that wouldn't be used in movies, books and media in general.
hmmmm
There are at least 16 discrete mythology segments from Africa.
Seven have been identified in South America -- and even the "big three" there aren't well known.
More than 30 different known mythologies from North America (not counting modern mythologies and Personifications) that often get sorta crammed into like two or three variants.
Mesamerica has three that I know of, but was never a big focus.
There are nine among the South pacific, but folks again tend to push them into "one size fits all", lol. Just getting into the Cargo Cult alone would be at least "somewhat familiar", and folks may have heard of it, but may not know the deeper mythology.
Few dozen for Southeast Asia that rarely get touched on or are grouped like others.
India alone has a few that are at least touched on, but even the experts I know say that's a whole bunch of effort.
Five dozen semitic mythologies, all of which date back long before any Greco-Roman.
At least six different Celto-iberic mythologies from western Europe that don't get spoken about the same way we touch on the Brythonic ones (somene mentioned Morrigan, eg).
I don't think people give Irish mythology a really close look because it is all blood and death.
Slavic mythology is fun -- anything balkan, really, because of the very light influence at the base from Greece and Turkey.
That's just a rough of what I can come up with of the top of my head for stuff not really well known in pop culture.
Oh, wait -- pre-Roman Etruscan! and Minoan!
I did mention PIE (proto-indo-european) previously, which is fascinating (but annoying because I stopped really being ok with IPA style conventions ages ago) since it underlies pretty much everything from roughly mid-modern day India West to the Atlantic, and north from the Indian Ocean to the Black Sea and around it slightly.
Then of course we have such interesting takes on Mythology as Gaiman's American God's series...

If I haven’t offended you, don’t worry. I’m sure I’ll get to you eventually.
I asked Drummer if he knows anything about mythologies so that he might join, he's been in a cult war before so if he does join maybe we would survive?

Hi!
I really like D&D, especially Ravenloft, Exandria and the Upside Down from Stranger Things. My pronouns are she/they.
I'm thinking, what would happen if there was a cult war that we were involved in?

No clue. But I think as mythology nerds we’d probably stay neutral and do our own thing.

We would crush them, of course. We are Kobolds from a thousand worlds and a thousand kinds -- we always adapt, and we are eternal!
