Thank the gods! I was worried I’d have to come in here and start putting up writing tips and story stuff. It’s not like I said I’d be writing a story and then got distracted by worldbuilding, making an rpg, working, and oh, I don’t know, working on what is hopefully the last short story in my first collection… It’ll be here soon, I promise!
Me too. I think it was cool that I established before how as a Changeling you were a spy in the courts of Kings and Queens - as a part of your past - and it worked out to loop that into this segment of the story. It's like I have it all planned. But honest to the gods, none of this is planned.
Like having the Banshee having imprisoned Deadpan to explain his current disappearance. The forums and a little bit of madness are what forges this story.
I missed a couple of the posts for the story, so I just read them, and WOW! You made a love interest for Draken’s great great grandfather (I get why but I’m still trying to make the story, I just have writers block) while also getting a part of my real life persona correct. I tend to react like that towards a particular person in real life, but only when he is being truly annoying. The only part you got wrong is I would have definitely walked off down the more dangerous path. I would just knock myself flat and crawl along the ground commando style.
LOL! Well, a few things - the character I mentioned for Draken's great, great grandfather is not a love interest. (Or at the time of her creation, she wasn't meant to be...)
For more on her....
So if you look at her name - Aksident - it essentially comes out pronounced as "Accident."
And then if you look at here race (Fallen Aasimar and Echo Knight for class) - it's a reference to the character you said you made on accident that had like 24 attacks or whatever the number was. And that she was wearing the Eye of Kraunos - which is a reference to the Feat you gave this accidental character you created - Eye of Chronos. Her entire "concept" is based off this character you'd created by accident (and thus her name Aksident).
Second of all, do not feel obligated for YOUR OWN story to even USE anything I use in mine. Your story should be your own story. In the "story" (can I even call this that?) that I write on here - I often use references to posts (so for example the character you'd created, the idea you have a great, great grandfather who is an explorer, etc etc). This is all references for this thread that make their way into this "story" I write for fun.
Your own story should have your own continuity and never worry about whatever madness I am writing!Enjoy your own story for whatever you develop!
First off, sorry for mistaking the love interest thing, but knowing this story, that’s how it’s gonna go now. Secondly, I’m not saying you should change the story based off of my experience. I was just saying what I would have done. Sorry.

ps. What website do you use for map making?
Hah! Do not apologize - I wasn't yelling - I was just emphasizing - don't be compelled by anything I write as continuity for your own. :)
As for the website - I use https://inkarnate.com/ - I use the free version, so there are limitations towards the icons you can use - but I make it work.
Question: What are some strange sources of inspiration that you have used?
For example, I am considering creating evil, fun loving fiends, or maybe fey, called Heffalumps and Woozles. They take what you love from you and enjoy toying with your dreams.
I also watched Man v.s. Bee a while ago, (not Rowan Atkinson's best work) and think it might be fun to create a lesser chaos god who takes the form of a bee. She drives people to insanity, making them think that every little misfortune is a larger plan made to specifically harm them, never allowing forgiveness, and insinuating crazy revenge. She drives those she curses to insane extremes and it is virtually impossible to actually swat her.
I also want to create a magic item that is a pink diamond ring inhabited by the spirit of a pink panther. I have no idea what it would do, but it would be fun.

Question: What are some strange sources of inspiration that you have used?
I am not sure if this is properly answering your question - but I pull inspiration from a number of things.
For example, I was a huge fan of the Dark Stalkers fighting game. So I've injected the characters in the game...
Anakaris - appeared as a mummy lord and a boss fight inside of a temple.
Bishamon - Is a hobgoblin who has ascended and is one of the greatest fighters (and a powerful enemy of the monks)
Felicia - Was an imprisoned Tabaxi (and the introduction of the Tabaxi into my game world)
Jon Talbain - Is a werewolf in my off week game
Lord Raptor - Was an undead bard the party fought
Rikuo - Was a triton that the party helped fight against the Sahuagin
Morrigan Aensland - Was a succubus who the party helped as she was trying to redeem herself.
The others are slated to appear I am sure, as the opportunities arise.
All of them in my game, have their names slightly altered - like Jon Talbain is John Tallbane, for example. But it's been fun.
Each time the party helps or defeats a Darkstalker related character (per the story) - they get a special inspiration.
There's more, along those same lines, but wanted to make sure I was properly answering your question.
I haven't heard of Darkstalker, but that sounds cool. Seems like an answer to my question to me and if you're serious about adding those into the story then go ahead. I don't see why not.
The party stared at the shimmering apparition of a ghostly woman.
“I could try to banish her,” Theology of Bagels began, but felt IAmSposta’s furry hand on their shoulder.
“I would not do that,” the Satyr bard whispered. “Any gesture of magic, and you feed the wood around us, and impale us all.”
AEDorsay, an elegant elven wizard stepped forward and bowed. “We apologize that we have disturbed you. Is there something you require from us?”
The ghostly apparition continued to float in the air, her body seemingly made of a translucent liquid in how it flowed. She’d remained silent for a long time before she said, “My name is Dolorosa, and I was murdered by a green hag named Mealladh. You will find her and destroy her, and bring her head to me, so that the roots of my woods can taste her blood.”
AEDorsay blanched at the thought of carrying a hag’s head. “We are on a quest of our own lady of the woods. Is there no other who might assist you?”
“I have your companion, the lion,” the phantom replied. The others looked amongst each other, now knowing what happened to Deadpan_c. “With but a thought, I could enclose the spikes around him and make him die as I died, slowly, painfully.”
“Might not be so bad,” Thorrison muttered, recalling how the Leonin were like in his plane, known as Ayfrikka. When the others looked at him, the huge humanoid hippo, a race known as the Giff, shrugged his meaty shoulders and added, “What? You have to admit he does get himself in quite a bit of trouble. He seems to be more trouble than he’s worth.”
ChoirOfFire nodded. “While it’s true, that the Leonin does seem to attract a lot of trouble, and despite how that bothers me, I am not comfortable deciding that he should die just because we refuse to hunt down this green hag. Green hags are inherently evil anyway. If we find people in need along the way, we should help them. If she,” ChoirOfFire gestured over her shoulder towards the shimmering spirit, “needs our help – and doing what she asks, allows her to find the rest she deserves – and we also bring down an evil hag – that according to him,” she pointed to IAmSposta, “is well known in the Feywild for running a powerful Coven, then it’s wins all around – we bring down evil, the spirit gets to rest, and the leonine gets freed from his thorn prison.”
Amnon_Balderk nodded in agreement. “The more shadow and darkness we remove from the world, no matter what plane they hide in, the brighter the light of inner peace for all.”
Quar1on looked over at IAmSposta then back to ChoirOfFire, “And the bard over there,” he began.
“I have a name, you know,” the Satyr muttered.
Quar1on cleared his throat, “The satyr over there,” he continued, and saw Sirtawmis try to stifle a laugh, “mentioned that the war between the Heavens and Hades, ages ago, has left torn fabrics between the Planes. We should be able to access to Feywild easily enough.”
“Accessing the Feywild wouldn’t be a problem, you’re right,” IAmSposta chimed in. “However, going after Mealladh? Now that’s going to be a problem. Sure, she’s evil, she’s a green hag, but she’s also so powerful, that many don’t dare speak against her – and she’s often, despite her appearances, even when she uses magic to ‘pretty herself up’ – a hag’s ugliness can never truly be hidden – invited to sit among the kings and queens – and was even given land, out of fear, to operate out of. This promised land assured that she would not strike against various nobles of the Feywild. She even has her own castle and court now, made up of the wildest people and things of the Feywild.”
“This may not be so difficult,” Midnightplat said, flipping a coin in the air. He tossed it towards IAmSposta who caught it and looked at it. He saw the coin had the terrible face of a woman – a woman he recognized. “This is one of Mealladh’s promise coins? How did you come by it? It’s only awarded to her most trusted within her court.”
Midnightplat’s body began to change and contort and he took on the appearance of a female Winter Eladrin by the name of…
“Reothadh!” IAmSposta blurted. “You’re her?”
“She’s a disguise I made up when I was sent to investigate Mealladh’s intentions many years ago,” Midnightplat explained, his voice now a sultry, sexy female’s voice. “Someone in the Feywild, I won’t mention who for their privacy, wanted to know what Mealladh was up to – and so I created the persona of Reothadh and terrorized several towns and cities – all of whom, the highest rankings of the council knew I was in disguise – so the few times I was captured, I was smuggled free – and explained that I’d used my magic to escape. The chaos I had woven drew the attention of Mealladh who propositioned me a position in her court, which I took and spied on her for several years.”
“OK,” IAmSposta nodded. “So we have an in. This might work out.”
Any chance I can be in the next one?
sure. But could someone please compile some the questions on this forum so the Stertle can answe them and I can get a feel for their character

their is no light without dark. no calm without storm. no heroes without villains. I, unfortunately am the dark. I am the storm. I. Am. The. Villain (not really considering I'm a forever player and never get the chance to DM)
Question: What are some strange sources of inspiration that you have used?

I have used songs (Purple People Eater, Furious Angels), bad dreams, random social media posts, and...
"extremely woke social justice BS that makes me sick"
all fairly routinely. I am quite fond of taking in-jokes and random asides and making them into something in the game.
I mean, I've done the trolley problem as a trap, and I regularly use Westerns, Horror films, spy movies, and such as adventure baselines. I had an entire floor of a dungeon where every time a door opened, there was a sound that only the players heard -- it was the "duh dun" sound from law and order because I made all 42 rooms on that level based on Law and Order episodes.
Really.
I can't force it, though. it has to be all kinds of organically derived -- some dang binge watching session was the inspiration and it hit about 3 episodes in so I never made notes on the earlier ones, only those after.

I have just spent a lot of time that I don't have compiling this list of questions that have been asked on this thread. These do not include questions from the original thread. I might collect those later if I have the time, but definitely not today. They are only sort of in order. Here they are:
Is DDB still fun?
Where do you stand in terms of DM rulings vs. predetermined rules for every possibility?
What is your favorite magic item from the core rules?
To homebrew, or not to homebrew?
What is the biggest heartbreak your character experienced (besides their own demise)? Was it the demise of another character? An NPC? A weapon or trinket lost forever? Let's hear it.
Do you punish your dice if they roll poorly for you? (Swap them out during the session for another dice) Do you use Digital Dice on D&D Beyond? If so, do you swap them out if they roll poorly for you?
Physical dice rolls. Do you prefer they be contained within something like a tray or tower, or do you encourage the "Stranger Things" style "shooting" of a d20 like it's a game of craps, or somewhere along a spectrum between those two poles? (Waiting for someone to say they insist roles take place between two poles).
Your dice - are they all from one set or are they dice muts (coming from different sets)?
Do any of your groups do rotating DMs - whether in the same campaign, switching off for new campaigns, or for occasional one-shots to give the usual DM a break?
Question: Is there any Table Top RPG you play (other than D&D... and maybe Pathfinder, since it's very similar)? If so, which one? If not, is there one that interests you? If you are playing a different one, what is the appeal? If you're not playing another one but interested, what is the appeal?
What was the greatest or most appreciated "gift" a GM ever gave you?
Dor your campaigns do you prefer to make a completely Homebrew world? Personally I do as it means the players can’t look at the stats and it’s so much fun.
When was the last time you had a BBEG use high level spells against the Players?
Have you taken the player survey?
Does this sound balanced?
Is there a specific song, artist, or album you listen to when it's raining?
If you were to homebrew a class (or sub class) that you feel is missing - what would be the general theme of this class/subclass?
Do skeletons talk in your games? RAW, they can't, but idk how many people know that, and I prefer talking skellies anyway.
Do you think there's some low level (or, heck any level) monsters where their CR seems too low?
Does anyone use Ordeals in their games?
Have you watched the incredibly funny web series called "Neverending Nights" - which is made using Neverwinter Nights - about two heroes out to kill a dragon? If not, why?
What is your preference of music (if any specifically) and what are some bands that you enjoy listening to?
Who was the first person you ever interacted with on the DDB forums?
Do you have a monster you tend to use more for comic effect or recurring "bit" rather than an actual threat to your party?
How many of you visit DDB during work hours?
Would you use a generated culture to help you create a new one for your setting?
when making a pantheon, what rules do you follow?
Do you have specific days that you play D&D? Or is it just when everyone can make it? Or do you plan the next session (if it's not always on the same day of the week) at the end of the current session?
Have any of you played a proper game of dnd at level 20? Proper means you’re actually following the rules correctly.
Actually, not a question! Tell me about the most memorable moment your character has had (or a memorable moment as a DM, if you're more DM than player) in any of your campaigns (and if it's not clear, tell me why it was so memorable). :)
What are some house rules in your game (whether DM or player)? What are some house rules you like or dislike (may or may not be in any game you're in, but just some you've heard of?)
what are some parts of dnd that you are a noob at?
while we’re on the subject of encounter balance, two players versus four goblins. Fair?
Y'all going to see the D&D movie? Are you going with your D&D group? And do you know how to get the special d20 popcorn bucket and/or the mug? I am, I can't wait, and if you find out, please tell me because I want them lol.
Dungeons or Dragons? Choose one and tell us why.
When will this thread die?
I was on a website article about the best forms for Druid wildshape, and it said Mammoth was the best form, but don’t Druids only go up to cr 1?
What sort of encounter would you design around an aroma of stewing misdirection?
How will you go about making a level 20 npc?
How would you go about homebrewing the stats for a vehicle? And if there is a website for it, PLEASE tell me.
What are some good Homebrew rules you guys have that I can use?
If you were a Paladin oath, what would be your tenets?
Who or what was your most challenging BBEG?
In the ‘Anything BUT the OGL’ campaign, what magic item do you want to see you’re character have?
What are you just awful at when it comes to anything but the OGL?
What's the best letter in the English alphabet? Also, what's the best letter in the Dethek (dwarf) alphabet? Are they the same? (Dethek is basically a font.) For me, it's probably... T, and "J."
We all enjoy D&D - but are there any VIDEO games (whether PC, Console, Arcade, etc.) that you enjoy? Bonus points for explaining why you enjoy them?
What is your favorite number?
Do you have any long-standing D&D friendships? Meaning, are there people you've met through D&D that you are still friends with years later?
Here you go AlmightyLordofDnd, I compiled this a while ago. It doesn't have all the newest ones, but it should work.
I haven't heard of Darkstalker, but that sounds cool. Seems like an answer to my question to me and if you're serious about adding those into the story then go ahead. I don't see why not.
Yeah, not too surprising. With arcades not really being a thing anymore - the game, didn't have too much success. But I promise you've probably seen at least two of the female characters in some kind of fandom thing - as people (men?) seem to obsess over them... that being Felicia and Morrigan.
Have you and another player in the game - ever played love interests to one another?
One thing you see in Critical Roll/Vox Machina, is players willing to play love interests with other players in the campaign. I feel like that adds depth to the characters, but I rarely see it in any games. In my off week game (as I call it) - there is a player who is 'dating' (they did a dating game contest, and the player picked three NPCs from it - and this is her second choice, she's with currently - already did the first NPC's dating round) an NPC, and in my monthly game there was a player dating an NPC (but they recently split).
I think the problem is people feel awkward "dating" character to character, even though it's a game; they're still speaking to the player. It's funny because the monthly game - it's a male player, playing a female character - so the person he was dating was male - so it was he and I speaking - and it didn't bother me in the least "hitting on" the male player or "going on a date" with the male player in regards to the story.

Not really. I had a dragonborn monk who was always attracting the attention of all the dwarf women. My excuse to the dwarf women was always that I was a monk which was probably why the DM did that in the first place.

Yeah - I find that romance is something that's often missing in D&D sessions.

Now we shall see if they actually respond and "earn" a position within the ... story, I guess we can call it.
(I bet AlmightyLordofDnd now regrets assigning races and classes to people in this thread, as I keep directing people to send him a message to be a part of it) :D

"Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen" - 1 Timothy 1:17

"Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen" - 1 Timothy 1:17

Jander Sunstar is the thinking person's Drizzt, fight me.
I look forward to seeing more creativity in here!

First off, sorry for mistaking the love interest thing, but knowing this story, that’s how it’s gonna go now. Secondly, I’m not saying you should change the story based off of my experience. I was just saying what I would have done. Sorry.
ps. What website do you use for map making?
Hi, I’m DrakenBrine, here’s my Sig and characters
I am The Grand Envisioner!
Hah! Do not apologize - I wasn't yelling - I was just emphasizing - don't be compelled by anything I write as continuity for your own. :)
As for the website - I use https://inkarnate.com/ - I use the free version, so there are limitations towards the icons you can use - but I make it work.

Howdy, I have a question.

Yeah, not too surprising. With arcades not really being a thing anymore - the game, didn't have too much success. But I promise you've probably seen at least two of the female characters in some kind of fandom thing - as people (men?) seem to obsess over them... that being Felicia and Morrigan.
Bwahahah! So they did DM you a message to be in the story?

Here's a question -
Have you and another player in the game - ever played love interests to one another?
