The last game I played was Unmatched, my favorite board game. It is a battle game where you play characters from folklore, mythology, classics, and other stories like Beowulf, Dracula, Sherlock Holmes, Shakespeare, Daredevil, Nikola Tesla, etc.
The last TTRPG I played was Pathfinder. It’s the only one I play other than DnD unfortunately.
You cast Burning Hands and as a result the canister also fires a cone of pellets?
You use up a spell slot to cast Burning Hands and the power ignites the black powder firing the cone of pellets?
You store up Burning Hands ala Ring of Spell Storing style into the rod and use a switch to activate it?
Something else?
1: I meant Produce Flame, not Burning Hands.
2: I forgot about that part of guns. Thanks for reminding me.
3: I don’t know enough about that ring to answer the question, but I’d assume it’d work.
4: Some answer
Doing that would be like throwing a frag grenade at your feet
I understand that. I was asking how I could improve it to work as intended.
Guns start at 1d10 and you cannot change the damage die. Then in the text say it uses ballbearings and requires a fire spell to activate. Using a higher level spell slot changes the damage to fire instead of piercing and increases the damage by 1 die. It evens up power wise because you are expending a spell slot for increased damage.

RAW, you wouldn’t get any benefits from doing this, since that would take your action, you wouldn’t be able to throw the canister and it would just explode in your face

Otherwise? Just played a cool free VR game called Sail with my friends, which is an open world pirate RPG where you sail around collecting treasure and fighting other pirates. It was fun.

Isn't that just the VR version of Sea of Thieves?

Yeah, basically. Although I've never played Sea of Thieves before. (Please don't hurt me)

Never played it either, so you're fine.

QotD: Do any of you use software like Notion or Obsidian to plan your games? Mike "Sly Flourish" Shae seems to use both and I'm trying to decide which to test out first. I'd probably use it more for organizing my homebrew notes, but still they seem like powerful tools.
I just use a note book that has scribbled notes all over it. I have a notebook for each campaign I run.
Table top? I am in a weekly "Delta Green" game. It started fun, but now to a point where it's all "question reality" which I've never found fun (not in games, stories, books, movies, tv shows - just not my thing).
Computer game, would be "SpaceVenture" as I am helping smash bugs in that game. Other than that, probably one of the Sierra (or Sierra-like) games I do for my Youtube channel.
Board game, it was probably "Bang! The Dice Game."

Yeah, I have one of these too, but I use it more for homebrew than campaign management. In any event, I really recommend Obsidian, so far. Its local version is free, to boot.
I use a physical notebook. Sometimes I put things in a googledoc.
I still want to see my notes if there is no internet.
Yeah I'm with you. Thankfully Obsidian is local to your computer, so the internet being down isn't an issue. Think of it as a system for organizing a bunch of interconnected markdown or text files.

That's cool (especially the free part!) - the downside is taking those notes with you. I have a desktop... my laptop is a Windows 10 ARM laptop... and... well, if it's used more than... well, looking pretty... it struggles. (So that laptop is used only to strictly record the audio of the session, so I can use that for notes). I made a website for my homebrew campaign, that I have everything on (notes from sessions, the deities, the landmarks, etc). So I usually just need my notebook where I've scribbled down ideas.
But I will check out Obsidian... because, really, free is a difficult price to beat... and it might be helpful in my madness.
Does it allow for multiple campaigns? I run five games (which are all inter-connected, so if group 1 burns down town_01, and then group 2 comes along to town_01, town_01 will be burned or in the process of rebuilding, depending on the time)... and then I run one separate Dragonlance campaign of my own design (not the D&D 5e one).
Clarification:
You cast Burning Hands and as a result the canister also fires a cone of pellets?
You use up a spell slot to cast Burning Hands and the power ignites the black powder firing the cone of pellets?
You store up Burning Hands ala Ring of Spell Storing style into the rod and use a switch to activate it?

I'm curious--why is the character interested in simulating guns when they already have access to (essentially) armor-piercing magic?
From a game design POV, I would build this as a cantrip.
RAW, you wouldn’t get any benefits from doing this, since that would take your action, you wouldn’t be able to throw the canister and it would just explode in your face
