Plague Eater is standing over a group of bloodied and unconscious assassins. They look high-caliber, but Plague Eater is barely scratched. He murmurs uncomfortably as shakes the blood off of his staff.
"Impressive," hisses a voice behind you, "And what did this lot do to merit such treatment?"
"They tried to kill me, mostly. I'm pondering whether it would be better to leave them alive and have them report to Cato empty handed or just kill them here. The latter option would probably be a mercy, given Cato's predisposition towards torturing people to death." He turns around casually.
"Is death really a mercy," rumbles the figure behind you. Two yellow eyes watch you from under a torn shawl. Large fangs gleam in the light, and an oversized, scaly arm pulls the robe closer over the hulking figure in an attempt to conceal its reptilian form. A thick tail lies curled around the creatures taloned feet.
"Why does this man want you dead? Do you deserve his death sentence?"
The oversized armored lizardfolk is interested.
"He wanted me to kill innocent people and eat them. I said no. Being an embodiment of evil, he didn't take that lightly. So now he wants me dead, I guess. And no, I guess death isn't really a mercy. I didn't exactly feel like I was given mercy the first time I was killed."
“Then it is right to resist his ways.” She says matter of factly. “You have been killed?” A forked tongue tastes the air, “ What was it like?”

"I don't really remember all that clearly. I was using my staff to block an attack from a warforged colossus, which, hey, I was panicking, and my staff snapped. That's the last thing I remember. According to history, however, my staff exploded and reduced me to a fine mist. How I stand before you is beyond me. My best guess is a Wish spell, but no one would be foolish enough to waste such power on me."

"Yes. But if only I lost my damn hunger when I got brought back. Even with the discounts I get for being a war hero, I still end up rooting through the garbage for more food."

“I understand that. I lurk into a town to feed on occasion and I am not proud to admit that I have slaughtered livestock to slake a sudden ravenous hunger.” She tilts her head and sniffs at the air. “That is the strange thing about dragon hunger. Sometimes I can go for weeks without eating and not feel the slightest discomfort. Other times I can barely keep myself from tearing apart every living thing I come across, such is the strength of my appetite.”

"Here's a little trick I use: I market myself as a 'town exterminator.' I get the town to hire me to clear out 'pests,' and I set traps for stray animals. I use their bones to make traps and cages and use the money I earn for the job to rent out a shed somewhere. This way I always have a stock of food. Well, I would if I could hold back from eating them. I can teach you some bonecraft if you'd like."

"It involves the arcane, yes, but it is more focused on literal crafting with bones. A small amount of necromancy normally makes the raps more effective, making them intelligent enough to only snap shut on specific prey, or at least to wait until an opportune moment to trap the target."

"And I would be honored to teach if you will learn." He waves his staff in a circle and summons a bunch of small animal bones. He crouches down and waves for her to come closer.
"Now take a close look at these bones. These ones are good for mechanisms, while these ones are good for the jaws. I usually file them down to make them nonlethal, since I like my meat fresh..."
The teaching goes on for a while. He's clearly a seasoned expert at this obscure craft.

She listens well and seems to understand. Her yellow eyes watch you move the bones about and she does reasonably well when asked to try something on her own. She is a good student.

When he finishes his macabre lesson, he seems happy. He removes his blink-dog-shaped helm, revealing his reptilian face. He looks more like a dinosaur than a typical lizardfolk, with large nostrils and a wide mouth.
"Now, I should warn you, feral animals are often diseased, but then again, if you're eating people already, you've probably gained resistance to diseases that would infect a normal humanoid."
