Remember how Meleager got Heracles to marry his sister? Well, his sister was named Deianira which means "man-destroyer". Deianira feared that Heracles was not loyal to her so she gave him the shirt of Nessus. Nessus was a centaur who was killed by one of Heracles's hydra venom tipped arrows. Before he died, he gave Deianira his shirt and told her that his blood enchanted it so that if Heracles wore it he would stay faithful to her. In actuality, his blood was tainted by the hydra's toxin and when Heracles put the shirt on the hydra's venom began to burn him alive. In order to escape the pain, he built a funeral pyre and burned himself upon it. Imagine a pain so bad that burning yourself feels like a relief. Yikes.
Nowadays the term "shirt of Nessus" is used to refer to a source of misfortune of which there is no escape.
Eris is really freakin cool. I don't know much about greek mythology, but I'm here to learn :)
Eris is really underrated! Technically, she started the Trojan War lol

I will humbly and gratefully accept any rank you would deign to bestow upon me oh great lord of the Underworld.
I elevate your status to minor god of the House. Shall you continue to bring your otherworldly knowledge to us and enlighten the shades that flit about without purpose. Choose the name of the god you wish to be named for.

DAMN. I didn’t know that. I know Agamemnon has a similar story about his death, but his wife had full intent to kill him.

I am honored, my liege. I thank thee for granting me this station. I shall continue to bring otherwordly knowledge and spread it among the shades willingly, for knowledge is not a treasure to be hoarded but a bounty to be shared. As for my title, though he may have been the only god to have died, Pan shall be the one who I am named after.

Oh she did, did she?
I’m pretty sure she made the golden apple because she wasn’t invited to Thetis’s wedding, then tossed it to the goddesses to cause chaos, then the goddesses went to Zeus, then Paris, and then BOOM Helen is abducted (I refuse to believe she went willingly) and now Trojan War madness

He is one of my favorites as well. Probably because I have always loved fauns. I also find his history to be really interesting, I will probably write about it later.

I’d love to hear it! Mythology dumps are so fun to read.

Hi!
Hiya! Who’s your favorite Olympian?
Athena, I know Artemis is awesome and all but Athena is a warrior who is also smart. The very pinnacle of awesomeness. Plus they remind me a bit of two of my friends

I haven’t read about her in a while, so i might get some stuff wrong.
Medea is the Daughter Of King Aeëtes of Colchis, and Granddaughter of Helios. In Most stories she is depicted as a sorceress and/or Priestess of Hecate. She uses her powers to help Jason find the Golden Fleece. After that, Medea and Jason travel to Corinth and marry. After 10 years, Jason abandons Medea to Marry King Creon’s Daughter Creusa. Medea and her sons are going to be banished from Corinth, and Medea poisons and kills Creusa as revenge. She later kills her sons before traveling to Athens and marrying king Aegus.
