"All these bad guys seem to think the same damn things." She curses after the soldiers tell her what the Lotus said. "Is there any form of negotiations, or reasoning, you would partake in with us to work this out, without battle? We are open to compromising, if only so much."

Yvonne gets to their feet, having patched up some of their more severe wounds, and retrieves a fire ax from the supplies. She holds it in one hand, gauging its balance and heft. "Well, looks to me that we've got a plan. I should be okay to head out when we're all ready. I know the Lair's layout like the back of my hand. Once we're there, I'll have no issue in getting us to the Archives."
Elsa picks up an old sword from the back of the room, preparing for when the team heads out. "-Once we resolve this, we--- might find an ally in the--- other King. Between the Gape--- and the Doctor, more allies--- would be welcome."
"That... is true. We need every ally available to us, lets just hope we can survive this first." The king finishes wiping down his sword and puts it back in its sheath, grimacing at the amount of notches and chips on it from their previous battle.
Once everyone is ready, the king raises his hand to the door, and with the same wave of magical energy as before, it swings open. "Good luck, everyone."
As the trio ascend the stairs, I'm going to need Elsa and Yvonne to make perception checks, Yvonne has advantage due to her knowledge on machines.
Yvonne and Elsa finish preparing to head out as well, ready to embark on the perilous journey.
Yvonne looks down glumly at some of her bandages, before refocusing and readying her axe for whatever comes next. "We've made it this far, and we've arguably been through worse before. We've got more than hope to rely on. Good luck, everyone." Yvonne's Perception: 17

"Most certainly. Stealth and espionage are their primary uses, after all." Amidais produces a small tablet device, using it to direct the Mantis to fan out across the city. After a few seconds, the invisible machines scatter off down alleys and across rooftops, until the street is silent.
"Is there anything else you need me to do, my king?"
"I'd love to say we have the luxury of waiting to see what the Mantis find, but we must keep searching ourselves in case the fake three are able to outplay the machines. I will not be outplayed, not today." The spider king looks forward, into the city. "Amidais, you are able to track the Mantis progress and are alerted if they find anything, yes? We should stay amongst them so we can arrive at their side quickly if needed, but should still be searching ground we have not yet covered."
"Correct, my liege. I'll direct them to stay within a general vicinity of us, so we're protected at all times, and we can search among them." Amidais produces the device again, and soon after, the Mantis can be faintly heard get closer, but not by much.

Yes! Absolutely!
I just thought of a randomly funny magic item: Basilisk oil.
basilisk oil, according to the rumors, can cure petrification! This has led many new adventurers to their doom, as it does nothing of the sort. It grants advantage on saves against petrification, but that’s only if you drink it beforehand! The downfall of many Medusa and basilisk fighting adventurers.
It's been a while since the ol' Lair's been in action, so I figured I could unthaw the thread with one of our old traditions: Coming up with vile schemes for things to put in D&D campaigns. One thing I've created that I think is a special kind of evil is a monster: The Reflector Drone!
The reflector drone is an interesting case: It's a CR 1/2 Construct with about 4 average HP, and has no attacking actions itself, only being able to do the standard move, dodge, dash, hide, etc. The real danger lies in its ability: Whenever the reflector drone is hit with a spell that either (A) affects its targets directly with an attack roll or saving throw (like ray of frost, or (B) is a linear area of effect (fireball wouldn't work, but lightning bolt would), the drone redirects the spell at a target of its choosing, acting as though the drone itself was casting the spell using the original caster's modifiers (spell attack bonus, spell save DC, etc). This could make it so enemy spell casters working with the drones could effectively shoot around corners, affect targets outside of their normal range, or even (since the drones have a 60-foot radius of blindsight) cast spells requiring line of sight at targets in darkness or heavy obscurement. Of course, this has the potential to be VERY dangerous to the players, and turns this weak noncombatant drone into a lethal hazard and priority target.
Technically speaking, there's nothing stopping a reflector drone from targeting another reflector drone, daisy-chaining spells to travel significant distances or weave through obstacles. I could imagine a less insidious application of them being carrying message spells across great distances in big flying chains of reflector drones, effectively functioning as that setting's telephone lines... but where's the fun in that? Have your evil wizards pelt the party ceaselessly with cantrips from their lofty towers through daisy-chains of deadly drones! Use one inconspicuous drone to unload a boosted magic missile to distribute damage across the whole squad! Watch the chaos unfold!

I’m planning on home brewing statblocks for the sort of embodiments of different diseases, which will get more powerful and higher CR the more people are infected. They will each have 6 stages, where they are CR 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25. Each stage they will unlock different abilities and gain more health, as well as grow in size, starting at tiny and becoming gargantuan at 25.
These are the diseases I’m planning on making: Tuberculosis, Smallpox, Cholera, Rabies, and the Bubonic Plague. But I’m not sure with this list, any other ideas for what to do? If I get rid of any and swap them out with something else it’ll probably be Cholera first then Rabies, I want to make the stats for Tuberculosis, smallpox and The plague 100%
also I may need ideas for the abilities for each individual disease. May take inspiration from some dragon statblocks and give them each a variant of frightful presence and an infectious breath weapon.

The trio make their way up the stone steps, nervous, but determined, as they must be. Elsa and the king, maybe too focused on what the future might hold, do not hear anything out of the ordinary. Just beyond the hidden door that hides the staircase from the building above, Yvonne recognises the faint buzz of a machine. As Yvonne takes note of the surroundings, the Mantis continues to move softly above, and the king holds his ground as the queen motions for the group to stop. There's 25, maybe 30 steps left to the top of the stairs, where a lever is implanted into the stone wall, clearly for opening the entrance back into the building. The walls appear to be enchanted, noticeable from the low level of light that the stone glows with- which would suggest that they're protected from certain effects, like thermal and magical location within their walls. There's no way of checking if they're soundproof though.
