Long live the dragon slayers, long live the spider guild, long live the forums.
I want you to know. You are going to lose. You are going to lose badly. You’re going to lose badly and it’s going to be awesome.
I’m suddenly really determined to become a high arachpriest so here’s this!
Years ago, there was a woman who was part of the noble Swan family, Lady Verona Swan. She had grown up in a wealthy home and had lived a happy life in her lakeside manor with her family. Then, one day, she met someone. Someone whose identity is a mystery to this day, as his name was erased from local history. But anyways, the two had met and had instantly become friends, and as the years went on, lovers. Just one problem with this: the one that Verona fell in love with was a commoner. So her father started to resent the one she fell in love with. But that didn’t stop her, because she loved this person and her mother and brother both supported her. And so, eventually, They decided to marry. They had a wedding in their Manor’s garden overlooking the lake, with the altar right at the edge of the cliffs. It was magnificent, everything was perfect.
then The father took out his hidden crossbow and shot Verona’s lover in the heart. In shock, he fell down the side of the cliff and into the sea. Terrified for her lover, Verona jumped after him in an act of love, but wasn’t able to save him and instead hit the water and drowned with him. The father, horrified that his own daughter just died, fled into the manor. His own guards turned against him and hunted him down, but he barricaded himself in his room and stayed there for ten days and ten nights. When the guards managed to break through, he was found dead, his withered corpse dripping with lake water. Over the next month, every inhabitant of the house died in the same way, suddenly and with lungs full of lake water. Half of them instead jumped into the lake and died either from the fall or drowned, a wild look in their eyes that wasn’t themself. Adventurers were sent to investigate, and only one came out, screaming that all of their companions ventured into the house and all went missing one by one. Since her death, nobody has explored the manor or even gone near that part of the lake for 57 years.
Lady Verona Swan haunts the site of her death and the surrounding manor, vengeful that she didn’t get to live a full life with her love while others simply get to live on while she suffered. If her ghostly form is dispelled, it forms back at midnight at the site of her and her lover’s first kiss, the belltower at the top of the manor. There is one way that Lady Verona Swan can pass on peacefully: she wants to spend just one more night with her beloved. This can be achieved in a few ways, the easiest probably being to find his corpse and revive it, although that could be quite complicated because it’s at the bottom of the lake and it blends in with the other corpses. Lady Verona often visits his corpse however, so that could help In finding it. If Verona gets to spend that one night with him, she will finally be dispelled and move on to the afterlife.

The ghost can see 60 ft. into the Ethereal Plane when it is on the Material Plane, and vice versa.
Innate Spellcasting.
Lady Verona's innate spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 17, +9 to hit with spell attacks). She can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:
At will: cause fear, invisibility
3/day each: bestow curse, phantasmal killer
1/day each: control weather, control water, Hold Person (6th level, against underwater targets only)
Incorporeal Movement.
The ghost can move through other creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain. It takes 5 (1d10) force damage if it ends its turn inside an object.
Force of Personality.
Lady Verona uses her charisma score in place of her constitution score when making constitution saving throws and when determining health.
Ghostly aura.
In Lady Verona’s presence within 30 feet, unprotected lights flicker and go out, windows shut to block out light, and other, larger sources of bright light, such as sunlight, turn to dim light in her presence, and large dim lights, such as moonlight, become darkness in her presence. Lady Verona is aware of all living creatures in her aura, besides constructs and undead. In addition, all water within 30 feet of her becomes fouled and putrid, causing 1d12 poison damage if consumed.
Haunt.
Lady Verona haunts the abandoned Lockwood Manor, once owned by Henry Lockwood Swan, her father. The haunt consists of the house, the courtyard surrounding it overlooking the sharp and steep cliffs, and the 700 foot drop directly down the lake, full of rocks and stones jutting out of the shore. In the lake is a water weird that stays hidden but obeys Lady Verona’s direct commands. If it is slain, it reappears 48 hours later in the lake. In the Courtyard and garden there are 1d4 specters, being Lady Verona’s slain victims, which are invisible until they attack. The specters obey Lady Verona’s direct commands but otherwise do nothing. If they are slain, they are destroyed and more are not reformed until Lady Verona kills a creature in the lake of her haunt. In the manor portion of her Haunt, there are no other creatures but there is the center of the haunt, being the Belltower of the manor, 200 feet above the ground and 50 feet above the highest portion of the manor. If a spell such as banishment or dispel good and evil is cast at this section of the manor, Lady Verona must make a saving throw against the effect or die as her haunt is dispelled. At midnight every night, Lady Verona gains the benefit of a long rest, and if she had died prior of any reason other than her haunt being dispelled, she reforms with all of her hitpoints at the center of her haunt. Lady Verona cannot leave her haunt.
Actions
Withering Touch.
Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 17 (4d6 + 3) necrotic damage.
Etherealness.
The ghost enters the Ethereal Plane from the Material Plane, or vice versa. It is visible on the Material Plane while it is in the Border Ethereal, and vice versa, yet it can't affect or be affected by anything on the other plane.
Horrifying Visage.
Each non-undead creature within 60 ft. of the ghost that can see it must succeed on a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened for 1 minute. If the save fails by 5 or more, the target also ages 1d4 x 10 years. A frightened target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the frightened condition on itself on a success. If a target's saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the target is immune to this ghost's Horrifying Visage for the next 24 hours. The aging effect can be reversed with a greater restoration spell, but only within 24 hours of it occurring.
Drown.
Lady Verona targets one creature within 60 feet of her that is underwater, and they must succeed a DC 17 constitution saving throw or be forced to stop holding their breath and eject all the air in their lungs, forcing them to start drowning. A creature that starts drowning in this way can only survive for half of the time they usually would be able to. (Minimum of one round)
Possession (Recharge 6).
One humanoid that the ghost can see within 5 ft. of it must succeed on a DC 13 Charisma saving throw or be possessed by the ghost; the ghost then disappears, and the target is incapacitated and loses control of its body. The ghost now controls the body but doesn't deprive the target of awareness. The ghost can't be targeted by any attack, spell, or other effect, except ones that turn undead, and it retains its alignment, Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma, and immunity to being charmed and frightened. It otherwise uses the possessed target's statistics, but doesn't gain access to the target's knowledge, class features, or proficiencies.
The possession lasts until the body drops to 0 hit points, the ghost ends it as a bonus action, or the ghost is turned or forced out by an effect like the dispel evil and good spell. When the possession ends, the ghost reappears in an unoccupied space within 5 ft. of the body. The target is immune to this ghost's Possession for 24 hours after succeeding on the saving throw or after the possession ends.

The lotus starts to glow slightly, and the roots around it start to grow even faster, snaking across the ground and flowers and roots start to grow faster than they can cut them down. Stronger force is probably needed to fight this threat.
The soldiers are desperately trying to fulfil their orders, but to no avail. Whispering can be heard from the group leaders, and a squad of 5 is sent back to the guild on a special mission. "Hopefully the men can hold it off until the more drastic measures arrive."
The lotus seems to shake and quiver as it grows more swiftly. As one of the soldiers strikes at its roots, the wound emits a gout of strong emerald flames up into the air. Strong enough and large enough to be seen for at least a mile. The soldier needs to make a DC 15 dexterity saving throw or take 28 fire damage. The plant stops glowing, as the flame seems to have taken a lot of energy from it.
*ooo, most of the soldiers don't have that many hit points, this could get really interesting really quickly*

then The father took out his hidden crossbow and shot Verona’s lover in the heart.
And here is Lady Verona Swan’s Statblock

Damage Resistances
acid, fire, lightning, thunder; bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing from nonmagical attacks
Reactions
Jumpscare.
If Lady Verona hits with an attack against a creature that is surprised by her or wasn’t aware of her presence, that creature becomes automatically frightened of her until the end of their next turn.
damn wow, that was both harrowing and really intriguing, not a lot of things want me to run a sudden horror one shot but this did! Well done, High arachpriest!
I MISSED THIS
WOW
WOOH
YAYS
Thank thee so much!
I think I should be the one thanking you, for all your wonderful contributions to the guild! We're lucky to have such a skilled High arachpriest.
Wooh! To celebrate my promotion I may or may not be making a terrifying teddy bear far realm aberration support monster that feeds off of and uses imagination to grow more powerful, requiring allies to do it. When it has willing allies, it becomes practically unstoppable and even starts healing amounts based on its allies charisma scores. It can cast wish whenever it wants to change terrain and reality to the way their allies imagined it to be. His name is Lewis.
I honestly can't wait to meet Lewis
Say hello to Lewis. Be friends with Lewis. Join Lewis. He wants to take you on a little trip to the far realm. Don’t worry, he’ll protect you :)
Alright, didn’t mention it but basically half damage on a success, like fireball.
(trust me, this is gonna get a lot more interesting. Very quickly. Remember, this thing has had like an hour to spread and it and it’s flower sproutlings have reached 50 feet from the Lotus)
Half damage, coming right up! The men scream in agony as they are burnt, most taking more than half their hit points in damage! Almost all of them fall back, scared for there lives.
There seems to be the sound of footsteps coming from the guild, seemingly perfectly in sync with each other...

The lotus continues to slowly grow, and the flowers sprout faster. More different types of plants grow now as well, ferns and vines and bushes and tree saplings, mosses and others, all strangely alien and all glowing with light emerald greens, bright pinks, and gold oranges. It’s starting to look like a sparse sort of alien desert, and in just a few minutes it’ll likely grow into an entire lush field. None of the plants have grown above say, six inches so far. And those are just the first flowers that bloomed.
*quote-chain snippet for Yvonne, Elsa, & the Good King*
"-Maybe we can find a--- cleric or priest who can--- call upon his aid?"
"I recall there's some spell scrolls in the Lair's Archives- some of them being quite powerful. Maybe, if all else fails, we can find one to call Jhon's aid in there. We'd be marching right into the belly of the beast, though."
Both of them seem puzzled as well: There's a lot of options the team could take, but it's uncertain which- if any- would actually work.
"Calling down the lord is most likely our best chance of getting through to my clone, although I'm afraid he might still be sceptical. I also hope that, even though the situation is dire, its seen as important enough for Jhon not to be displeased by his summoning."
The king is slowly starting to put his armour back on. "Once we are all ready to move again, we should leave. There's a high chance we are being looked for, and if we can get past, there's a good chance not many people will have been left to watch over the guild. The Lair's Archives are our best bet of summoning Jhon, as all clerics we have are under strict orders not to summon on impulse."The king lets out a sigh. "And we need to move fast."
Yvonne gets to their feet, having patched up some of their more severe wounds, and retrieves a fire ax from the supplies. She holds it in one hand, gauging its balance and heft. "Well, looks to me that we've got a plan. I should be okay to head out when we're all ready. I know the Lair's layout like the back of my hand. Once we're there, I'll have no issue in getting us to the Archives."
Elsa picks up an old sword from the back of the room, preparing for when the team heads out. "-Once we resolve this, we--- might find an ally in the--- other King. Between the Gape--- and the Doctor, more allies--- would be welcome."

As the original body of soldiers continue to fall back, it finally comes into view, the source of the footsteps. A large group of 15, maybe 20 mech suits have arrived, piloted by some of the guilds top military engineers. Each bares the spider guilds emblem on its chest, and looks to be armed to the teeth.
"If you are sentient, if you can hear us." One of them calls out, using a megaphone, "Stop now, or we will use force."

Once everyone is ready, the king raises his hand to the door, and with the same wave of magical energy as before, it swings open. "Good luck, everyone."
As the trio ascend the stairs, I'm going to need Elsa and Yvonne to make perception checks, Yvonne has advantage due to her knowledge on machines.
