The rats guide Zeon towards Savut’s swamp, but making sure to travel as hidden as they can, despite the emperor’s immense speed.
Once Zeon can clearly see the tree, it slows down and quietly approaches, looking around the area and staying alert.
The rats spread out around Zeon, creeping along with him towards the tree.
Zeon looks at the lead rat and whispers "Is their a branch in particular...or will any do?"
They study the tree from afar for a bit, looking indecisive. They don’t know yet. They need to get closer.
*Investigation check*

A couple smaller branches have tiny yellow buds growing on their ends, which is quite unusual given tupelos don’t produce fruit of such a color…
a couple of The rats scurry up the tree and onto these smaller branches to better observe the strange fruits, curious. They sniff them and examine their texture and size closely, trying to identify them.
investigation if needed again: 12
In size and shape they resemble barberries, but are the color of tomatillos.
One of the rats picks a berry and begins to nibble on it, tasting it.
Take 16 poison damage.
The rat dies, and its two companions screech wildly and drag its body back to the swarm. The lead rat, on Zeon’s shoulder, sees this and screeches to the other rats. The two original rats and one replacement go again to scout out the branches, not eating anything. The lead rat examines the body of the dead one.
The dead rat’s body begins to swell unnaturally, its muscle tissues bursting through its skin.
The lead rat leaps back and screeches, observing the symptoms from afar.

No news is good news…
I'll lay a white rose on the cold earth, knowing it that it has not claimed your soul.
Quite a bit of stuff has happened in the city of order since Cog left for the underworld. Mostly relating to the infinite staircase symbols and cultists found performing rituals involving the symbol. Also, some of the crows have migrated.
The 3 remaining elders are scrambling to try to keep everyone calm while Cogintius is gone. They hire people to try to scrub away the staircase symbols, they put up watches of guards to try to find cults, and they hire trained hunters to try to catch the crows.
Whenever the symbols are destroyed, crows flock to the area to carve the symbol back into the stone. And when they are being hunted, it is quite difficult as it seems their feathers are coated in some painfully acidic substance, causing burns and rashes to anyone who makes contact with them or gets near them when they flap their wings.
one day, a flock of three of the giant crows swoop through the door of the temple clock tower, flying around and surveying the building. One of the crows has three eyes.
The guards groan and call some hunters. However, they're busy with other birds in the city.
"Man, I sure wish Cogintius was here right now." One says. "Yeah. Hey, wouldn't it be funny if he appeared right after you said--" Cogintius appears in the center of the T.O.M's bottom floor, looking around and clearly in a bad mood. He looks up at the crows and points a spear at them. "Leave." He says the message with some god power stuff, so the crows still get the message without being intelligent enough to understand speech.
Screeching and Cawing, they fly out of the T.O.M and high into the city, back to their nests.
a group of around 5 Herionidians who joined the city a while back are making their way up to the T.O.M right now, they’ll get to the top in a bit.
Cog walks up to one of the highest floors of the T.O.M to rest.
There is a crow staring at him from a window, also with three eyes.
the Herionidians make their way to the temple, and are looking for either Cogintius or one of the leaders.
He grants the crow intelligence and the ability to speak. He then says to the crow, "What do you want?"
An elder sees the Herionidans. "Hello. How may I help you?"
“What do i… want? I want to know what you were just doing… where were you?” it coos awkwardly, very much not used to being able to speak.
”Hi, uhm, so… when we came into the city, we had planted a garden full of seeds from the tree of Herionidus.” One of them says. “And they started to grow, but this morning when went to check on them…” another says. “We had planted twenty-four seedlings of them, and three of them were uprooted and stolen. Seven more were damaged or displaced, and they aren’t doing so well. And these plants are really valuable, they came from Herionidus’ tree, and we don’t really know what happened or who did it. But they left something behind…”
