Yeah, I just came back not too soon ago myself. Mostly because of resources for the campaigns I'm writing.
Cool, campaign writing and worldbuilding is one of my favorite parts of D&D. It's also fun to take some of my previous characters from threads like the Universe Smörgåsbord, Camp Half Blood, and Tenebris Sine Fine and make them npcs/beings in my current homebrew world.

Yeah, it's nice to bring back character's you've spent so long on, makes it feel like less of a waste when the thread dies and you move on from them.

Exactly. Especially ones that I have used is multiple threads like Derendia, Zeon, and Coronet.
I've spent a huge amount of time writing Malrick, I basically have his whole life story. The original canpaign I had him ended off with a loss where he was imprisoned, so I put him in TSF. I never did get to introduce his layer before he got killed :(

Yeah, sad to see that thread didn't last, it was one of the few that I got to have fun being creative with for my characters.

It was one of my favorite threads, it was funny though as only 2/5ths of my characters on the thread were evil, so the interactions with the other's could be pretty funny.
Roomba Knight, Architect of the Cataclysm, Kitsumiho! Dubbed The Fluffy Bowman by Golden. He/They
Theatre Kid, Ravenclaw, bookworm, DM, Lego fanatic, flautist, mythology nerd, pedantic about spelling. I also love foxes, cats, otters, and red pandas!
I love Korean Mythology. If you want to ask me about something, send me a PM!

I certainly enjoyed making it with Arch and Cyno and everyone else. It had its issues that led to its death, although I'm wondering if at least some of those issues could be remedied...

Possibly. I think part of the challenge is that TSF was much more mechanics heavy so you would need someone motivated enough to keep updating and tweaking the mechanics as the thread evolves.

Yeah, Tara and Platy leaving slowed things down a lot because at that point me, Cyno and Arch were the only remaining mods to make new abilities, go over homebrew (and there was a lot of homebrew), etc. Update 3 didn't even have a name because it was so small.

Yeah, its not that it can't work. But it takes a lot of dedication and not everyone can maintain that, or honestly should have to feel obligated to do so. I think the Universe Smörgåsbord and its predecessor worked because the mechanics were simplified, allowing things to be more about the rping and worldbuilding/lore building then fighting and making strong characters all while still having some sort of fighting mechanic for those that wanted one.

I've had several thread ideas for quite some time, but I'm not sure the huge amount of work (Very difficult ideas to bring to fruition) would be worth it due to the low amounts of interest of threads in late.

Yeah, that is one of the challenges. I had considered once or twice trying to start a new Universe Smörgåsbord-like thread by taking that thread's mechanics structure and updating it, but I don't know if it would even be of interest to anyone.

I also think that one the things that makes threads lose interest is the lack of something clear to do. I believe that the only reason some characters fight is that it is one of the few ways at clear progression in some threads.

Honestly, this touches on another issue. Some people rp by creating story and character interactions and others rp by overcoming challenges and engaging with some sort of mechanical component the thread offers. This can sometimes lead to a disconnect between posters. I can imagine that this can lead to some disconnect where those who are more storyteller RPers avoid mostly mechanic/combat heavy threads (like the Arena threads) and more challenge/combat RPers avoid mostly storyteller threads (like the standard tavern threads).

Yeah, I'd would be great to make a thread that truly mixes the two, but as I said. It would be difficult.

Not sure, I'd have to see what the active threads are and see if any interest me. It's been a bit.
