I live in a small town, so that means I have to go out of town for appointments. Because of my assorted chronic illnesses, I end up having to do this a lot. It's become a tradition to go to the mall after my appointments (because our town doesn't have a mall either), and this simple ritual means a lot to me. See, in day-to-day life, I can pretend I'm not sick. It's not hard to just push it out of my mind. But when I have to go to the hospital, I can't do that anymore, and I have to face the fact that I'm different. Not cool quirky different, but sick different. So when we go to the mall afterward, I feel normal again.

You should leave if it makes you happy. I’m mostly a lurker now and I feel pretty happy with my decision. More time to focus on school and real life.
