To be clear, this is the type of monologue I'm talking about:
"Mad?" He sounds faintly annoyed. A long pause follows. "I guess," he concedes. "Many people have been labeled as mentally ill for looking in unorthodox places. Like Alan Turing, father of computer science. They used him for his ability to see things others couldn't, then had him castrated for the same. They said that seeing secret messages in jumbled signals was different from seeing love and beauty in another man, but I believe they are the same." He places another trap into the water. "To see something no one else does, to experience the world in an unorthodox way, to feel the way no one else feels... it is madness, yes, but it is a madness we all contain. To share that madness is the purpose of art. I keep my eyes open. Do you?"
He's putting crab pots in a sewer and waxing poetic in response to someone's questioning.
That's a pretty good monologue. I like it, personally, but you could just cut down on the adding more and more. Cutting it off at 'but I believe they are the same" is a perfectly mid-length post.
Like, it's very in-character, but you could just not let yourself write any more after "no one else feels" or somewhere. Save the rest for a later post. Also -- this from the Leonidas Line?
My problem is it feels like I'm hogging the spotlight.
Yes, it is. Barbeau is a more steampunk character, but I brought him over anyway.
So give the other characters reason to claim a bit of the light for themselves --- ask them something that'll get them talking. Then, it might balance out the conversation a bit more.

Nice! Speaking of which, what was the inspiration for Barbeau's name, if any? William Barbeau (the baseball player from long ago who was, in a kind of messed-up way, named "*** Barbeau" because a reporter decided he looked Japanese [it was around WWII, I believe])'s the only one I know.

It's a French surename for a smith who makes fish hooks.

It was his father's name.
His mother was a sea demon that lived in a cage.
You can probably connect the dots.
Oh. Um. That's a pretty interesting backstory.

I did state that this was my opinion. In response to the guy that said I am looking in the wrong places, I am looking at a wide spectrum of stuff. I never said there wasn’t good output, but that overall, industries like Hollywood and Disney aren’t putting out a lot of great movies or films like they used to.
Thats not saying that nothing they put out is good, but that most of it is pretty mid, in my opinion.
To the fourteen-year-old, I actually agree with you and think you might have misunderstood me. I, too, love Star Wars as a setting and universe. But I also think the prequels suck. Doesn’t mean we can’t have good stories anymore, which is why I mentioned Andor, as it is pretty sweet!
CGI/GFX budgets have been kinda lame recently, in certain spots. Transformers 1 is used a lot in comparison with The Flash movie or whatever. I think it is fair though. HOWEVER, I think it has more to do with the movie direction than actual CGI. DUNE is wonderful. But the people in charge of DUNE were more willing to create a better CGI budget and it shows very blatantly.
Personally, I thought this place was just where you can gripe about things, but I seem to have touched a nerve or two. My apologies. I am also pretty sure I mentioned at the end of my first post that these were my opinions. But if I missed that, then again I apologize.

Or, I could have been more specific and said the mainstream media outputs like Hollywood and Disney or whatever aren’t as good a storytellers as they used to be.
I think most people don’t understand and underestimate the effects of mob mentality and basing serious decisions purely off of emotion rather than from a more logical and rational perspective.
Just to clarify for my brand new critics, temperance is always to be utilized. For example, it would be a sad world if we didn’t seek out partners because we liked them or not. But chasing after someone purely off of our more animalistic urges doesn’t always lead to positive places.
Taking into account things like compatibility is very rational. “I like you enough the think about how well we could do together,” is very mature and respectable in my opinion.
