One idea is... (thinks very hard) don't have a clue how to describe it. A thread where humanity is defending the world above from beings from beyond the veil. Based off a mod for the Game People Playground called Beyond Nowhere, which inspired me for no reason

Well, OK.
It's kind of a steampunk-ish tavern? It's essentially simulating the [insert name which I haven't decided on yet here] Exploration and Conquering Corps. Imagine a government-funded organization that goes around in zeppelins and flying ships, discovering new places and taking them over.
I'd probably try to set it in a newer colony of theirs, providing a bunch of new, undiscovered stuff to do. Of course, we'd have to make things slowly get worse and worse for them as they were there. Communication drops off, supplies run out, and they have to fend for themselves. Or maybe I'd set them after that's already happened, and they're developing their civilization.
Their recruits also draw from prisoners and those on struggling terms with the law, so I think that that provides all the more reason for there to be all types of people to interact with.
That's only one of my ideas. I've reworked that one a few times, and have plenty of others.
