I am pretty sure that my daughter would very much enjoy the romantic fantasy sub-genre. However, she's a bit picky about what books she'll read (hates Tolkien and Roberts, loves Kate O'Hearn) so I was hoping someone may have some recommendations on such books for a 12-year-old.
I think she might like Daughter of the Forest and the whole Sevenwater series. Each book is a new generation from the main characters in the previous book and they each have their own love story even if it's not the focus of the book. There is a **** scene in the first book, but the others are mild compared to that scene. Very good series!
I am reading Mists of Avalon right now. It's Arthurian legend told from a female perspective. There's some romance to it, but it's not heavy romance. It focuses on Morgaine (Morgan le Fay) and casts her in a different light than the original legend. It's a bit feminist, but again, not heavy on it. I've enjoyed what I've read so far.

Wow! That's a older book. I can remember reading that years ago. It's in my top 100 books list. Great recommendation for a young girl.

Gwenhwyfar: The White Spirit is very similar to what you described, very good, and a bit shorter. Its author (Mercedes Lackey) is a friend of Mists of Avalon's author (Marion Zimmer Bradley) and has collaborated with her on a few books, but I don't remember which ones.

A dwarf with a canoe on his back? What could go wrong?
Thanks for the recommendations folks. Reviewing now to see if they'd be suitable for a 12-year-old.
