Sadie is first to notice this figure, and starts towards them, sniffing the air
The figure turns their back, then walks towards the end of the alley
Matt seems to notice something's up, and follows Sadie, hand on the revolver in his waistband. Sadie would start to look the figure up and down, sniffing
(She has a dumbed down version of Detect evil/good, basically, she senses whether one creature she can see and smell is good or evil, basically a vibe check. Custom creature rules I stole from a friend, who uses it on domesticated animals like dogs and horses)
As they both walk, the figure walks into a shadow, and promptly disappears
Sadie curiously sniffs the shadow, as Matt mutters "What the heck?"
A voice emanates from above both of them, raspy and just seeming different, like the language has changed since they learn to speak
"What do you want?"
"Oh my goodness... I don't mean no harm. Was just making sure my dog didn't wander off without me"
"And, yet, you come follow me, you could have stopped the dog, this I know"

Their fur, as if magically, begins to puff out as it observes the demon, but it manages to get its act together and turn away. "Demons," you hear it mutter.
