Well met, fellow RPGers. I'm Matt, dad of 3. I've been playing since Christmas 1979 (7th grade for me). Started with AD&D and the red box. Had to crayon fill the numbers on my dice. You younglings don't know how good you got it :). I've played all editions, I still buy other systems, but always come back to D&D. Corrupted my kids with gaming and general geekdom. My late wife was a geek princess.
Mississippi native, work as a support coordinator for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, ready to find a new group. Mostly game with my kids (and with out of state friends a few times a year)
My current goal is to play every race and every class in 5e before 6e comes out :p
Awesome! Another one who got their start in 1979. There are a lot more us kicking around then you think. I two remember those yellow dice you had to color in LOL! Ah Good Times!
I run 5th Ed Storm King's Thunder, well there's a fella that plays in my game we affectionately call Uncle Paul, well, he's been playing since 1980. He started playing in Germany while he was a tanker stationed there and then had a family and didn't play until I invited him to a gaming group about four (4) years ago. He still has his old modules, character sheets, books, notes, dice... it's really great to have a player with a history playing this game. Especially with some of my newer players. They can see that it is a hobby that isn't just something for the short run. I had a friend who didn't want to play because he thought it was a small commitment. Except, we play EVERY Friday. And he's the one running our next game! But, yes, there are a bunch of old school players out there and I am honored to have one in my gaming group. He's 55 and doesn't plan on slowing down.

Hello, all! I'm a 28-year-old massage therapist that daydreams about character backstories when I should probably be focusing on my client's muscles. I've been a fan of D&D since 3.5, but I didn't get a chance to play until 4e was on its last legs and 5e was looming over the horizon. I love all things tiefling and creating a tiefling of every class is on my bucket list. I'm currently a player in two campaigns (Lost Mines of Phandelver and Out of the Abyss), and I'm very slowly working on building my own urban fantasy world. I collect dice, pens, and notebooks, and that was even before I started playing D&D!
My first character was a half-elf ranger that probably should've taken a level in Barbarian with her anger issues and love of beating things bloody with her swords.
When I'm not playing D&D or working I read, hula hoop for fun and fitness, spend way too much time building things in Minecraft, and sleep. So much sleep.
I literally sit at work all day thinking about D&D, I sit at my desk and read everything I can. And my buddy who is a welder does the same thing in the train yard he works in. He keeps a dirty notebook with him to write down different ideas. Some of his best spell combinations have come from his "thinking sessions" at work. So, you're not the only one!

I'm a 19 year old trans woman from North Carolina, I'm currently between high school and college but I haven't been accepted to any. I've always been interested in roleplaying games, but only just recently was I able to play one - as the DM. I'm interested in writing and online journalism, I'm currently trying to get some pieces published as a freelancer but it is slow going.
I'm currently looking for groups to join as a player (DMing was nice but i don't know if I cut out for it), but because I don't know what my situation will be in a few months I'm looking for online groups :) If anyone knows any that I could join that'd be really rad.
roll20.net is a great place to find an online game or if you're interested you can join my play by post? It's a little slow going but we're having fun with it so far. If interested, shoot me a message with your character. (Point buy in, max stats before racial mods are 15 and you can play races from Volo's and also any class from the UA...even the Mystic.)

This is probably my favorite thread right now... It's really amazing to see all us gamers from all over the world (and so many from Cali) come together and share our love of gaming. It's freaking beautiful.
My name is Billy and I am from Western Pennsylvania, BillyFromDaBack on Xbox One (Overwatch is my other addiction right now, so add me if you want a mid-level silver working on gold team mate in Comp.) I am 33 on the verge of 34 and I have been gaming since about 2004 when an Army buddy of mine introduced me to Warhammer 40K. I didn't stick with Warhammer, I suck at making models but I did find a love of RP'ing. Over the years I have played AD&D, 3.5, HATED 4th, Pathfinder, Rifts, World of Darkness, Vampire the Masquerade and Requiem, Scion, Everquest (barf, though the gnome priest was beast mode!), tricked into Rollmaster (?#@?>#$@$>#@?>@), Star Wars d20 and the Saga Edition (seriously one of the best systems ever made) and now finally 5th Edition.
Gaming has been a lifesaver for me. I love gaming so much, and I am quite decent at it. But I really love running a game. I like getting my friends together and giving them something other than drinking and drugs to do. Where we live it is kind of hard to get away from stuff like that Currently I am running and freaking LOVING Storm King's Thunder. (I like the Realms, I do...but we really need some Eberron love for 5E already.) The party I am running is currently surrounded by Stone Giants at Deadstone Cleft...this is the first time since the game started that the whole party might end up in a TPK... :/ I also occasionally play in a Pathfinder game as a lawful good goblin paladin. (Sir d'Dirt). I have a serious dislike for when people complain about broken systems or try to break a system. I understand the need to point out the flaws, but games are made to be played not broke.
I have a mental illness that makes it hard for me to not get distracted or communicate certain things. I also get hooked into things really quickly, like if I like something I freaking love it. (These forums, though, am I right?) I won't get into the specifics but if it wasn't for D&D I don't know where my life would be right now. It's made me a better person. It's made me a healthier person. (Minus the increasing size of my recently size 34 tummy...lol)
I believe in this game because in some weird way it truly believes in us; the players. Scrabble could give two craps about how we feel or what we'll do in the game. But D&D, and most RPG's, respects our intelligence enough and uses it to make a world and an experience that we can all thrive in. I've seen insecure friends, who shy from any confrontation stand tall as a warrior facing down a demon and friends who were some of the toughest soldiers I have ever met cower in fear when facing a goblin horde. It brings out the best in us and sometimes our insecurities. We all know what this game means to each and everyone one of us. That's what makes it so special. And living with PTSD and Depression I couldn't live without this game.
I love my dog, Artemis. (Yeah, he's named after THAT Artemis...lol Though, my Artemis is a coward.) He's a black lab/leprechaun or fairy. I don't know which but it's some magical race and he's my best friend in the world. I am in a wonderfully, sometimes confusingly chaotic relationship with a woman who is way too beautiful for me, but hey, I ain't complaining. I like to enjoy a nice glass of a sweet red wine and on some occasions a nice crown apple whiskey. I love Star Wars, Game of Thrones, DCTV, Marvel movies and have found a new love for Pete Holmes. (His new show Crashing on HBO is freaking amazing!) I love long conversations about things I love and believe in the human spirit. And I believe in you. If you ever want to have a chat, I always have an open ear. I know life is hard enough if you don't use it making friends and sharing. But I especially love talking about gaming. Like, scratching my neck and saying, "Got any more of them D&D conversations..."
All I can is that was "AWESOME". You could inspire many with that. As I read through your post it totality brought a huge smile to my face. The "Roll Master made me laugh so loud My co - worker I've gone to the world of the insane. I too was young and foolish enough to be tricked into game of doom and despair and what ever else you call it. Some many good memories LOL! I'm very please to meet you.
I would like to know how your SKT is going? I'm curious to hear from other running this adventure. It's the first adventure I have run and only because of how great I thought it was. I have/own everything but mainly use it all for source material but this one I had to try it.
I'm running it with two groups in parallel. After group 1 left NightStone without killing the goblins and ogres (they bargained for the release of the prisoners) I can came up with the idea of having my other group follow up and take out the caves. That group loves killing stuff LOL! Group 1 went to Bryn Shander and the other group to Goldenfields. I sort of plan to have them join forces for the final battle in one big epic night for the conclusion.
How is it running for you?

Oh hey hi again!!! Remember, we were talking about this in another thread! I told my gaming group about you running two concurrent games with two different groups and they thought that was clever and a little insane. They wanted me to ask you a couple questions...first, do the heroes from the different groups hear about the exploits of the other characters? And also, how the hell did you pull off the Oracle in the mountain with both the parties? lol
So far, we love it. Usually, if I use a module I pick and choose story elements but with this one, I really have used it from cover to Deadstone Cleft. (It's where we are right now.) I'm an eccentric person so I try to convey that through my NPCs and storytelling. SO, I still have my zany and twisted characters pop up, but now it's more measured. Like with Ollie, their silver dragon friend who decided to adventure a bit with them. Unfortunately, there was one big blue dragon who frowned upon another dragon doing such things...but a failed teleportation roll later and Ollie and that blue dragon are spread to the far corners of the world. (I really rolled a 00 and a 1 on him teleporting them away!)
Also, thanks. I am glad I can make someone smile! :) I wouldn't mind being a little inspiring either, especially over something I believe in. Ya know? I usually cackle at random internetness at work as well...so I know what it is like to have co-workers giving out the stink eye. And wasn't Rollmaster the worst! I don't judge people, never ever. But if they say they enjoyed Roll Master I secretly do have a little judge session. HOW CAN YOU LIKE GAMES AND LIKE ROLL MASTER!! lol sorry...it really gets to me. lol My buddy, Joe likes Roll Master and he's an excellent RPer...I just don't see the appeal. I really can't wait to hear about the epic conclusion of your game. Like, you took on a pretty big task and however, you are managing it so hats off to you!

Haha, I have million items running through my brain and totally forgot we were talking about this clever but in truth highly insane two group thing.
So I will answer your groups questions and please keep in mind that there was a little muddling with the adventure that was required to make this work.
My one group (I will call these fine folk group 2)did nightstone and ended up bargaining for the towns folks and leaving the caves full of nasty things. Then hitched a ride with our new favorite hippie cloud giant to Bryn Shander to start their adventure and side quest exploits. Group 1 who was in the area of Nightstone stopped in and were asked to clear out the Dripping Caves filth and were directed to Goldfields.
First off one group is a few sessions behind the other so they are hearing about some of the exploits of the other group. I call this group 1. They have already completed the Goldenfields attack and started their side quest events. There are working their way through the areas around Goldenfields and haven't heard of the exploits from the other group which is primarily operating in the northern area. Having a timeline and keeping track of it is really important as events unfold. This is where keeping track of time spent traveling between area is key. I built a timeline and I carefully keep track of where each group is in regarding the time of year and placement and what has transpired. I'm sure as time passes there will rumors of each of the groups adventures.
Second question is how I will handle the Oracle. That is one was a extremely tricky one because once one group meets the Force Grey Frost Giant and heads that way the other group will be left with not much to go on. Considering that the one group can harvest all the giant relics and leave nothing for the other group. This made my head spin for a few days. My first issue was how to get them there since our Frost Giant friend has already scooped the other group. I'm doing a secret Harper map that show the location and a bit of lore regarding the Oracle. With a little(lot) of roleplay the adventures will be asked to perhaps seek answer as to why the giants are all crazy and bashing stuff and generally displeased with life. From the Oracle I'm counting on the other groups not hitting all the Mounds and using what is left over for the other group. Of course the temple will be semi restocked with a different array of fiends to keep they busy since this group is less on solving puzzles and more into battles. (The groups are very different this way and when I was deciding on where to place people I separated the players based on their play style into the two groups to help with the synergy of the players)
There are still a few kinks to work out but I have a few backup plans written out to overcome these. The final encounters will be completed as one large group hopefully all meeting in the court of the Storm Giants. My insane battle group will miss much of the adventure which is OK, since that group tends to shy away from these kinds of encounters and with any luck they haven't gotten themselves killed which is a possible outcome since they tend to think they can beat everything.
We shall see how it all plays out. So far it going well and both groups are enjoying their roles. I've made only minor changes and it works. I think if I had gone with 3 groups (one for each town attack) I would have pulled out what little hair I have left. I did think about it but happily took the 3rd group on a different homebrew questing line. They still see some of the evidence of the giants rage bashing but are not directly involved in the story. It was kind of hard for them after they started being kidnapped by slavers MUHAhaha!
I'll do my best to keep you informed of the events and how it plays out.
Cheers,

It's alright...I get it... and it is clever and insane. Holy hell that really does sound amazing. I think I would like to try that one day. I know it will cause me to go bald, but the thrill of running two groups that are working towards a common goal and then making a super encounter at the end...whew!!!
An idea for what comes after the Oracle... I mean MR. ForceGrey has a "tool" for them to use...so what if he only gave half the tool to one group and the other half to the other...? That way there are burial mounds for each and you can kind of control which party goes towards which quest. That way, if they are anything like MY group who wanted to hit every burial mound, then they can explore how they see fit. I had to change some stuff up in my story too. I mean, I love all the work Wizards put into this game and was just going to run it cut and dry from the book. Then my DM angst got to me...I had to start painting in this world and playing it as my sandbox. Some of my group read these forums, so I can't share anything yet. But I made a HUGE change that so far has been working out super well. I was actually afraid it would throw the game off and they wouldn't go for it, but it worked. (So far...lol they started casting doubts about some things a few games back and those doubts keep creeping back up...haha) We didn't get to play Friday because our Bard was sick and then our Paladin couldn't make it so we just played Munchkin and had drinks. It was a nice break, but then again we are at some pivotal parts of the story that I have been waiting months to get to!
I'm actually kind of sad they didn't make their way towards the Fire Giants... Ganodorf of giants...lol

Hey I like that idea of predestination for the mounds. I'm going to use this HaHzaa! It will help direct the different groups as well. It's simple and less headache. Thank you.
Munchkin is so much fun, AWESOME! The Fire Giants is awfully tough but a great area. I look at the books just as I look at the rules. Guide lines. As a DM it is encouraged to make changes to suit your play style and the the style of the players. Not everything is going to work so make the changes. I'm always making changes, some big and some minor tweaking to fulfill the needs of the various groups I run. Heck I though in a minor goblin encounter as more of a mook thing that kept them busy for over an hour roleplaying with the goblins on how they where going to cross a old wooden bridge. Goblin are sneaky and can be deadly even if there where only 4 of them haha! It was fun.

I'm 19 going on 20 and I was pretty much raised on dnd. I remember spending hours just reading (looking at pictures) the monster manuals. I've been playing as and developing the same character for around four or five years. I'm currently working as a file clerk/ marketing assistant at my families small clinic, but I'm planning on moving out of town to go to school for graphic design/film/photography. Of course, that will put a damper on the campaign I just started DMing, but hey, it is what it is.

"When I finally find a pen I have nothing to say..." ~Some graffiti I found once.
Greetings. I'm a 25 year old NEET from Idaho. I've been playing D&D since I was 13, starting with 3.5 edition, but I play mostly 5th edition these days. I'm currently running Curse of Strahd, Tyranny of Dragons, & a homebrew campaign but I've also got some Tales From the Yawning Portal to run at a local convention next weekend. As you may have guessed, I'm the Dungeon Master for most of the games I'm involved with. The only exception would be a 1st edition game that one of my friends from out of town runs once or twice a month when he comes into town. I was led to the game partially by my love for RPG video games but also partially by legacy, as I'd heard tales of my father's own adventures with the 1st edition of D&D. I also play a bit of Magic: the Gathering on the side, mostly Elder Dragon Highlander. The commanders that I run are: Animar, Soul of Elements; Chandra, Fire of Kaladesh; Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord; Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind; & Sydri, Galvanic Genius. Other tabletop games I enjoy include: Cards Against Humanity, Chess, Cyberpunk 2020, Fluxx, Go, Joking Hazard, Shadowrun, Time Wizards, etc. Video games that I enjoy & draw inspiration from include: Baldur's Gate, Champions of Norrath, Dark Souls (& Bloodborne), Diablo, Disgaea (& other NIS titles), Fallout, Final Fantasy (& other SE titles), Knights of the Old Republic, The Legend of Zelda, Neverwinter Nights, Torchlight, etc.

I hope while DMing my kids I get to read something like this one day from them. Legacy players are always awesome in my world.

I've been here from day 1, but work has been keeping me pretty busy recently so I haven't posted much yet. I'm a 38 year old Systems Analyst who supports the financial software for zzzz.... (yeah it puts me to sleep on occasion too :P) Oddly enough, my career has very little to do with my first crack at college, where I studied as a jazz vocalist for a couple years before realizing I was likely heading towards a life of service jobs and disappointment.
My hobbies involve gaming, gaming, and more gaming. I'm an avid PC and console gamer; I'm currently making my way through Mass Effect: Andromeda and looking forward to playing Horizon: Zero Dawn and Persona 5 next. I belong to a small but active group of like minded gamers that grew out of a guild for the Final Fantasy XIV MMO, but now mostly play other things together, including several tabletop campaigns via Roll20. My most interesting gamer story to date is that I used to participate in national Rock Band competitions, when that was a thing. My "band" (read: friends) and I won a competition put on by Sony in 2008 and got to play on a side stage at the Voodoo Music Fest in New Orleans that year.
As far as tabletop RPGs go, my first was in 1992 and was GM'd by my 7th grade math teacher. While to this point I've only been a player in various campaigns (D&D, Dungeon World, and some White Wolf games) I'm actually getting ready to DM my first game starting in a month or so. I'll be Co-DMing with my wife for an all UA Mystic game in a setting based on a mashup of Forgotten Realms and The X-Men.
Oh, and my favorite class is Bard. For like... no reason ;)
It was fun.
Cheers,
JT
Cool! I am glad I could be helpful. And I completely agree. But, there may or may not be some Fire Giants in their future. We, unfortunately, lost two of our characters on Friday night to the Stone Giant Thane and her golem. RIP Hacken Slash, you crazy barbarian! Now we only have two original characters from Nightstone. The OBB is starting to dwindle. (They named their group The Ordening of the Bright Blade lol) That Fjellblod is no joke... :/ And goblins are my absolute favorite baddie/monster race. I just retired one in a Pathfinder game I was playing. Sir Dirt, 20th level Empyreal Knight Paladin/4th Tier Mythic Guardian. The game was Homebrew and there was a goblin god called Grey Gormish, I was his ever so devout follower. I was playing a homebrew race called the High Goblin. But wow! He was awesome! Sir Dirtmound, but Sir Dirt to his friends... I had a sword called the Greybringer that I made my cohort with the Leadership feat and my GM let me make it a Legendary Item as well...WHEW!!!

Hi all. I'm Squalls! I'm a back-end developer, currently working on this super cool project called D&D Beyond!
Im currently playing a Chaotic Good Warlock Tiefling named Prailak. The character is still a bit of an enigma, with a lot of the personality coming through his trusted familiar, Grailak, whose a Gazer that shows affection for the other PCs by licking them.
I also love video games, many of which have drawn inspiration from D&D. I'll play anything with deep character building and progression.
Hi all! I'm Frank, I'm 28 years old, I'm a Virgo and I enjoy long walks on the beach and getting caught in the rain.
kidding aside, I have been in and out of the hobby for about 13 years now, from humble beginnings at a friends kitchen table, to running my own campaign at my OWN kitchen table.
I game mostly with D&D but I have plenty of other systems I want to try but my players are married to d20 and so they will remain.
Currently what little free time I have is spent podcasting at the SOGOpod (www.sogopod.com), it's a video gaming podcast though we have delved into tabletop a few times. I also host a wrestling podcast about the latter days of WCW called Butts in Seats (www.buttsinseats.libsyn.com). Both are occasionally funny and insightful if you are into that kind of thing.
I am 27 and I started playing D&D 3.5 when I was 14. Currently, I am playing 5e with two different groups. One group, we have several games going on, and I am the DM for one of the games. The other group doesn't meet as often, but we been sticking to one campaign.
Besides D&D, I play FATE, Exalted, and Mutants and Masterminds.
Besides RPGs, I love running, hiking, camping, and messing around with my dog and cat.
Hey all, call me Lone or Tucker(long story on that name). 18, getting ready to head off to college for Computer Sciences and hopefully go into game development/design.
Been playing DnD for about 2ish years, got into via pathfinder when a friend of mine needed someone to fill in for his group and invited me. I took the offer and never looked back. So far, I've done one PF game(didn't finish due to scheduling conflicts), a Fallout/Mad Max flavored d20 Modern game that I GMed(Again, never finished due to scheduling conflicts), Currently running a game based off of Fallout:New Vegas's engine(still ongoing, school has kept us from meeting often, and it is a bit of a mess) that's being tuned as we go and works by me willing to play fast and loose with it, and I am also drafting up another homebrew, this time a crossover between X-COM: Enemy Unknown/Within and DOOM 4(the new one). I was also in a 5e campaign as a player, but the GM's life got real busy real fast, and he had to drop for the time being. I also play a bit of Magic: The Gathering, mainly EDH/Commander, wit
I also play a bit of Magic: The Gathering, mainly EDH/Commander, with Ezuri, Renegade Leader as my commander. Video games are also my life at the moment, so if anyone wants to game with me on XB1, my gt is thelonewander. All one word. See ya'll around, and happy gaming.
Just a middle aged gamer here. I have only been playing DnD for about a year. I play on Roll20 due to my work schedule and not being able to find a local game during my available free time. I am a member of three separate weekly games and at times..I can't tell where one character stops and the other begins.
When I am not smashing things as an over active gnome gunfighter/cleric, I play the video games. Poorly.

I'm looking for my kitty avatar. I know it's here "somewhere". Also my first post already got deleted, so Your mileage may vary.
I'm looking for my kitty avatar's Tail ... but I've sworn off {insert smiley faces}.
2 "B" or not 2 "B" , that is the question my kitty avatar's Tail is secretly signing. You can see it, I know you can.
