I had to go, and will have to leave again soon, but I don't really care about the staff as much as you think I do. I quickened cast chain lightning on you and the staff and some other nearby stuff that doesn't matter. you have to make a dex save or take 34 lightning damage, and the staff (being a magical item) takes half that. the idea is to activate retributive strike. so you take an amount of damage equal to 608 force damage and have a 50 percent chance to teleport to a random plane of existence (avoiding the effect) on a 2, you escape, on a 1 you stay. 2

 was that lighting chain at the 7th or 8th level because you are out of 6th level slots
