The Thirteen are a set of loosely connected heroes of the old empire that are seen as the epitome of their respective fields. All thirteen are presumed dead, but nobody really knows what happened to them.
Nameless Spearman
The nameless spearman is said to be everything a fighter should be. This enigmatic armored warrior wielded ten magical spears with which he fought giants, dragons and primordial vampires. Eight of his legendary spears are lost to time, Ascalon is trapped in the hoard of the Dread Dragon and Gungnir has been taken back by the god Odin.
Kalina Artemievna
Kalina Artemievna, also known as Lottie the Hermit, is thought to be the greatest Artificer to have ever lived. She is said to be the inventor of gunpowder and build the legendary Orrery of the Wanderer. An ancient weapon broken into six pieces which each hold power.
The Black God
The Black God is not really a god, though people sometimes thought him so. He was already ancient when the rest of the Thirteen were young. He was an ancient druid with black skin and a crescent moon embedded in his forehead. It is said that the power of the full moon flowed out of his mouth whenever he cast his spells. He wore a buckskin cloak and liked to wild shape into a great megaloceros with antlers the size of a man.
Sir Johan Donia
Sir Johan Donia was one of the first members of the Paladins of the Ancients, and is said to have been the greatest Paladin that ever lived. It was said that nothing could sway his mind and convictions. It is said that he fought Bane one on one to a stalemate. It is also said that he is personally responsible for the extinction of Demons in Materia for a hundred years.
Xenobia Elagabalus
Xenobia was said to be the most savage barbarian, even when she became the wife of an emperor. She never stopped fighting his wars. It is said that after many decades of constant fighting she had more prosthetic limbs than real ones, and her scars covered most of her body.
Stan Mercury
Stan Mercury was a wizard that unlocked the secrets of gravity and performed a mythical tenth level spell named Stan’s Black Hole. This spell is said to have obliterated the foundation of the Island city of Saeftinghe and caused it to slide below the waves. Stan Mercury was never seen after this incident and presumed to have been killed by his own spell.
Bakhile Musi
Bakhile Musi, also known as the White Lion, was a great hunter and ranger known for his striking white lion pelt which he wore. Although it is also said that he was actually a Leonin who had immigrated to the Old Empire. He hunted down the great Beholder Laraxur, and killed an ancient kraken. It is said that his last deed was to bring down Beatar, a giant Rhino-like creature the size of a castle.
Tamoya Rami
A thief, assassin, pirate and graverobber. Tamoya Rami was the greatest criminal to have ever lived, that we know about. She is said to have invented Thieves Can’t, an argument that is helped by the fact that it is often referred to as Tam’Ra by those in the know. She stole the crowns of the Latsian Emperor and Queen of Kyo without anyone seeing her.
Purper
Purper was once a courtesan and bard who spent nights with many of the elites of Latsia. She tickled many itches and was long known as the perfect woman. She also wrote several legendary songs under the pseudonym of Veronika Nikolaev. Nobody thinks this was her real name, but nobody knows what her real name was. Many think she was actually a drow or shadar-kai as she stayed young and beautiful for a long time. She was also said to be able to perform magic with her songs and to be able to kill a man with a single word.
Lady Kat
Lady Kat was an ancient monster hunter and said to be the ancestor of the current Van Hellsing clan of monster hunters. Many claim her true name was Katrien van Hellsing. Lady Kat was however foremost a faithful woman. While the modern monster hunter clans use the divine magic of rangers, Lady Kat drew her power directly from the goddess Artemis. She was seen as the greatest cleric in the land and given credit for Artemis’ high standing in the old empire, which put the goddess at the same level as Athena and Hera as just one step below Zeus himself.
Mutty Bonechaser
Mutty Bonechaser was a wild woman with wild magic. She’s been claimed to be a shifter, half-orc, werewolf, bugbear or anything wild. She is seen as the most powerful sorcerer that has ever lived, being tapped directly into the force of magic itself. And while she could do amazing things with her magic, sometimes it was unpredictable and blew up in her face. One day when she performed a great meteor swarm, she vanished from the material plane and was never found again.
Shina One-eye
Shina One-eye was a dhampir that fought her evil instincts through meditation and discipline. After decades of training to the point that she went blind in her left eye, Shina became almost one with the flow of Ki. It was said that surprising her was impossible and that even projectiles had no use against her. She was the only one of the thirteen that never fought for the empire, but she did keep the peace in the capital.
Andrea Aerdna
Andrea Aerdna is almost certainly not this creature’s real name. Once a beautiful woman of fey descent, she made a deal with the then young devil Fierna. The two rose together through the bureaucracies of Baator and Latsia as Patron and Warlock. Some say the two even truely loved eachother. After decades of service, Andrea’s mortal life started to near its end, but Fierna could not let go. Fierna took control of Andrea’s soul and formed her into a fey creature called the Kludde. It is said that the Kludde still roams the Wood of Woe, but most think it's long been killed as Fierna never mentions her anymore.
Seyma Grand
Seyma Grand is sometimes added as the fourteenth member of the Thirteen, as she was the first known user of Blood Magic. But as Blood Magic is rare, and nearly nothing is known of her besides her name, she is often excluded.
