One really good superhero/sci-fi series is Reckoners by Brandon Sanderson. The 'evil guys' are called 'Epics' and they become dictators over parts of the Earth. The 'Reckoners' is a team that takes them down (via assassination.) It has a lot of good humor and an amazing cast of characters, and I promise that it is completely awesome in every way.
Phenomenal series. I love everything he writes and reckoners is no exception. Like @Survival Island says, the premise is basically that a percentage of the world all become superhuman at once and are all basically evil. The series goes through the struggles of Epics and non-epics and explores whether its the powers that makes them evil or whether they are already evil. Really fun read.

Thank you for commenting! You explained it way better than I did. (I hate explaining Brandon's books. I always think I'll get something wrong.) :)

YES, SOMEONE ELSE READ THE SERIES! Oh my god, I just started rereading it and it's still as good as the first time.
Two more good sci-fi (both VERY dark, so warning):
The House of the Scorpion:
Drug lords have created a country called Opium between U.S. and Mexico. These drug lords have developed cloning technology, and use these clones for a purpose that is definitely a spoiler. The main character is one of these clones.
Scythe:
Humanity has completely erased almost all forms of natural death and aging isn’t really a thing. While at first it seems like a good thing, it leads directly to overpopulation. Their solution? Scythes, whose job it is to select people to die to control this overpopulation. The main characters are apprentice Scythes, who have to deal with the toll their job takes and evil Scythes who misuse their power. Bonus points for sentient internet.
Both of these, while dark, are some of my favorite books ever. They really make you think about humanity’s nature, and ask the big questions. Definitely not feel good books, though.
Oh, I read Scythe!! I've been trying to get my hands on the rest of the books, but haven't been able to yet. I second the recommendation wholeheartedly!

Me as well! I really need to read the second book, though. . .
I haven't checked the earlier pages for this, but is anyone a Wheel of Time fan? Or has read the series?
I got about 5 books in, and by the time the next book had came in at the library, I'd forgotten the first 5. :) Now I'm at the point where I'm probably not going to read them, but I don't want to watch the series in case I do.

The show didn't follow the plot in the books, as far as I remember, but maybe it has some worldbuilding stuff that wasn't revealed in books 1 to 5, but I feel like it was more that they left out stuff than put stuff in. I'd recommend re-reading them if you are ever at a loss for fantasy (which I guess probably doesn't happen much with D&D players.) :)

I got to book 2, but either just got super busy, or super lazy. I was loving it so far, though.
I've finished, but I really need to re-read it. But alas, I can't ignore the 12 library books I checked out last week. . .and the three other books I'm reading.
I actually just finished a pretty big project. I went through my books a few months ago and had a big stack that I wasn't sure about. I finally finished rereading and deciding on every single one of them! Some were good and some got donated. :)
I had to read Stone Butch Blues by Leslie Feinberg for an english class earlier this year, and I thought it was pretty good. If you're into queer stories that's a must-read in my opinion.
Other than that, I'm reading McCarthy's The Road, which I think is good on a purely aesthetic level! Haven't quite finished it, though.

Keeps: Dragons of Deltora, 13 Treasures, Inkheart, Inkspell, Dragon Keeper, the first two Nancy Drew books, Dragon Rider, The Gauntlet, the Unwanteds, Charlie Joe Jackson’s guide to not reading (ironically:)), Wellspring of Magic, The two princesses of Bamarre, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH, the Sisters Grimm, the Last of the Really Great Wangdoodles, the great good thing, PS Longer letter later, the Keepers: A Wizard Named Nell, The tower: The Fall
Donate: Half Magic, Magic by the Lake, Time Garden, the Penderwicks (1-3), Nancy Drew 58 + 65, Deep Blue, Accidental Hero, the Care and Feeding of Dragons
The relative sizing of these lists indicates my difficulty with this project. :)
I'm actually reading The Silver Chair. (Chronicles of narnia)
Unfortunately, I've never read those before (or if I have, I've forgotten them already.) How is it?
The whole series honestly just has this classic feel to them, in my opinion. I grew up watching some of the movies, and I loved them. The stories are just engraved into my childhood. They are relatively short books, but there's seven total, I think. It's about some kids, brothers and sisters at first, that keep getting sucked into the land of Narnia, essentially a fantasy world.
I actually have really wanted to hear other people's opinions on the series though, because even though I love reading them, I feel for some reason that I'm biased to like them.
