Hail fellow nerds, I am Wolfngard and I am looking for somebody who is interested in turning D&D from a hobby into something more. I run several paid one-shots and campaigns per week on Roll20 and am looking for somebody that can competently navigate forums to find potential players and provide support to them through the process of making characters, answering questions about the game and/or Roll20. If you are interested you can drop a line here or ping me on Discord (Wolfngard#2174). Please include the following.
Name: Age: Time Zone: Experience with D&D (5e and other editions) Experience, if any, with various forums (DndB, Roll20, Discord, Reddit)
Careful with the term "career". Are you planning on paying a living wage with health benefits? Or are you thinking more in terms of a paid "gig", where someone can earn some spending money on the side?
Most paid DMs don't earn very much on their own, even when hypothetically running games full time. The ability to adequately compensate support staff is very rare in this field.
Hello Inumiru! i appreciate your questions but i'll need you to follow instructions before we start talking seriously about pay and other factors. Thank you!
Is this something that should be posted to the General Discussion forum? I'm not sure if I would really call this an "advertisement", but I think it would still make more sense for something like this to be in the Advertisements Subforum.
Hello TransmorpherDDS! I'm sorry that you nothing to contribute to this thread but nonetheless I appreciate your view. If you believe this post is in the wrong channel i urge you to reach out to an actual moderator to resolve this issue. Thank you!
Name: Inumiru Age: 29 Time Zone: PST Experience with D&D (5e and other editions): Multiple years Experience, if any, with various forums (DndB, Roll20, Discord, Reddit): Multiple years
Hello Inumiru! Thank you for you reply! Unfortunately I don't see you and I working out together but thank you very much for your interest! I wish you well in the future and with whatever endeavors you undertake. Have a great day!
Hello Inumiru! I'm sorry that you are unhappy with my response. Maybe I can provide some clarification.
Issue #1: You display a clear inability or lack of desire to follow very simple instructions. When asked for a few simple details you decided, of your own accord, to not and instead jump directly to your own questions
Issue #2: When asked simply and politely to correct the above mistake, you did so in a spiteful/trollish manner, where most of your answers don't actually answer the questions. Multiple uses of "Multiple years" shows me that you don't really care about the process or my needs, instead, you only care about yourself and your time. These are "Multiple" examples of an absolutely terrible employee and as such, i need not waste my time and your questions.
Issue #3: The inability to understand and accept that this post just isnt meant for you. When i told you that we aren't going to work out together, you chose to attack me and call into question the validity of my post. This displays an immense immaturity and would lead to a toxic workplace.
I hope this brought some clarity to some glaring personality flaws you harbor and i hope the ability to self-reflect isn't among those flaws as well, otherwise, your 30's will be very difficult. Thank you!
If you are serious about hiring people, it would be beneficial to give a little bit more information about what it is you are looking for from a potential applicant, especially if you have a list of things that are going to be a guaranteed deal-breaker. Time Zones that don't work, age ranges that you are not comfortable working with, preferred levels of experience, so on and so forth.
Hello MidnightPlat! I thank you for your reply but i think your post might have been more suited to it's own thread. While the information may be valuable to many DMs and players out there, I myself am looking for neither. If you yourself are in this "DM matching" program of which you speak, i'll be more than happy to pass your links along to any DMs or players that may require such a service. Either way, Thank you!
Hello ConalTheGreat! There really isn't much from my end that is a deal-breaker aside from people that I feel I will not mesh with. There are no time zones or age ranges that dont work, nor any levels of experience. I understand you seeing this as an "application" or "interview process" but it really is neither. I am just looking to speak with a few people that are interested in this idea and see where they and I land. I apologize for the confusion but i appreciate your reply. Thank you!
Game: D&D 5e Group type: Online Experience: 23 Years Schedule: Several days and nights (see below) Roles sought: Looking for players Game style: A good balance of exploration, combat, and roleplay. Player-driven. Open world
We can do any 5e module, I've previously run all of them and am familiar enough to start today. We can also do homebrew if that is something you are more interested in. My current favorites are Curse of Strahd, Icewind Dale, and Storm King's Thunder.
Sessions run for about 4 hours. All WotC material is allowed, including UAs. Discord is required If you are interested feel free to reply or PM.
These are paid games and are $20usd/session. You are welcome to join our coummunity where you will find others that play in weekly games and can provide references should they be needed. The community is very welcoming and friendly; we hope to see you soon!
About me: I have been playing D&D for 23 years and have been DMing for 16; the last 5 of which have been with 5e with no breaks. I run several games a week and am professionally dedicated to all of them. If you are looking for something more than games that fall apart after a few weeks or inexperienced DMs, look no more. References are available within my Discord community and we look forward to having you!
Hello Geann! I'm not overly sure as to why you found it relevant to post one of my old ads, but for any that may read that, all of those games are full and there are no slots available for new players. That is, however, a good window into what the person accepted for this position would be doing, posting ads and such like that. Thank you!
If you want "professional" applicants, you need to provide a "professional" job listing, which includes an expected pay rate and hours, at minimum.
Based on your Roll20 account, you charged 15/week for games with an average of 4.5 players. Assuming your games run for at least 2 hours, with an estimated 5~7 games per week, that translates to $337.50 ~ $472.50 per week. That is hypothetically sustainable for one person in some states, but depends upon 100% saturation, which is unreliable. Assuming you are posting this ad to support switching to full time DMing, then you'd be looking at possibly 3 times the number of games (6hr per day, 7 days per week), which is a viable income for one person who has to pay their own taxes and insurance, but not enough to realistically hire help full time, or even part time. You'd be better off working with fewer games and reclaiming some free time for yourself. (Note that when you are self-employed you end up paying twice as much in taxes as you would otherwise, so even if the rough calculations look good, you need to deduct roughly 30% off the top.)
Your better bet might be to connect with one of the various professional DMing organizations and let them fill this roll for you. They should already have a system for advertising and a list of clients.
Edit: With the newer rates of $20 per session, that helps, but not enough to offer someone a "career".
If you would like to add D&D Social AR to your games, feel free to check out the Open Alpha on the ARealm Discord.
Hello Memnosyne! I appreciate your obvious love of math and accounting. Unfortunately there are a large number of variables for which you've failed to account but I'm sure you assumed that as you were crunching your numbers. Still, I can't deny my joy towards your expressed enthusiasm for problem solving. Thank you!
P.S. I never asked for professional applicants, i asked 5 questions, 3 of which are gimmes. Using "professional" in quotation marks indicates that you are quoting me, however, you are not. The word "Professional" does not appear anywhere in my post
The vast majority of the variables I was excluding are expenses, not opportunities for growth. Crunching numbers and problem solving is what I do professionally. It's not just enthusiasm.
If you would like someone to give you a proper second opinion on your business plan, feel free to message me. Otherwise, best of luck.
(If you don't have a formal business plan drawn up, that is an important first step.)
Hello Memnosyne! I am not surprised to hear that you do this professionally as it's not everybody that will take the time to form an equation and solve it on a random thread on some corner of the internet. I'm sure you enjoy great success in your field and will continue to do so. I will add in, from one enthusiast to another, that the number of DMs under my umbrella is one major variable you've missed. Still, you are great and should never change! Thank you!

There are several different uses for quotation marks. Direct Quotation wasn't the one I opted for.
