The legions of the worlds army fight against the crawlers, but are slowly being forced back. They need a breakthrough in some way, and fast.

 This is actually extremely accurate, for what I first imagined when creating the Crawlers. 

The Crawlers have set up small camps around the globe, and through some form of cruel biological modification, have began producing soldiers that can take to the skies. 

Gliders: 

The British have been rapidly sending out calls for aid in this battle, but so far, they are not getting much response. The battle's continue, the United Kingdom holding tight on its island in the sea, but they won't be able to keep it crawler free forever.

Part of a letter from Nathan Burwood, General and commander of channel protection, to the English crawler defence HQ:

"They come from the sky now mate? Like what? That's a bit annoying innit? I've got the RAF shootin down their flying bois, but we won't be able to stop em forever. Ya gotta send us more help mate."

The RAF are able to take down many Gliders, but once some of them latch on to the aircraft, they seem to be able to tear them apart quickly, even eating some of the metal.
