What about naiads! I forgot 5e doesn't have nixies. Naiads could gain water breathing/swim speed at first level. Not sure what spell at 3rd. They have some psychic abilities so maybe something psychic-ish.

No, not sarcastic, I just think 5 is weak for 3rd level, so I think the sorcery point doubling is a great idea. It's funny you say that. I know it's impossible to tell really in text but my students say the same thing, they can never tell when I'm being sarcastic . . . I probably usually am lol
