Instead of specific spells, there are mana points. Whenever you use magic, you decide how to use it, and then decide the effects. So let’s say I wanted to make a dragon made of fire come out of my hand and crash into the ground, burning everybody. The look would just be flavor, with it really have two effects, fire damage and area of effect. Both of these cost a specific amount of mana points. Add them together and subtract them from your total score. You get all spent mana points back after you rest for at least 6 hours.

I like this, how would scaling work. More mana points equals more damage?
And what about control spells like control flames, or normal cantrip effects

Sounds good, but it also sounds like something players would complain about.

First one, yeah, if you want to increase the area of effect or damage output, you can spend more mana points to do so.
Second, spells like control flames and mold earth and such would be considered tier 1 magic, which doesn’t cost any mana points.

I’m going to try to create a sheet that shows each effect, how much they cost, and the effect scaling if that’ll help.

Summon effect. The cost depends on how large the object or creature being summoned is, with the most expensive is gargantuan.

No, summoning undead like zombies would be resurrection effect
No, summoning undead like zombies would be resurrection effect
Okay, so say I wanted to summon several elemental creatures, would that be a summon effect along with a type effect. And if I wanted to summon multiple would a higher level allow more summons per mana-point or just give more mana points to use towards summoning

First off, yes, that would be summon and type effect. Secondly, it would give more mana points at higher levels to use towards summoning.
Reminisces about old taverns

After some thought the Mana Point system seems cool but I feel the balance would depend on how it scales with levels and with more mana points
That sounded so basic, what I meant is a person shouldn't be able to cast meteor swarm before they're able to

I feel like I should mention this isn’t for dnd. It’s for the system I’m building for my Isekai tavern.

Thanks. The mana point function is for casters, but I’m hoping to make another one for warriors. Maybe a Beast Tamer class.
