The gods freaking abandoned everyone and all their creations. Most people still harbor some resentment toward anything religious, but some celestials, fiends, fey, and powerful undead are still trying to take over as gods. Their powers are purely local, and they can't sponsor clerics. Druids, however, are cool with the whole deal since they've been worshipping small local gods anyway.
