 I wasn’t being optimistic, the first thing I said was that humans are morally grey creatures. I was not saying that humans are good, But that they CAN be. There are still horrible people, and do think also that all people CAN be horrible, but it is all choice. Consider me a realist I guess.

I'd still call that optimism though, you're not just assuming that all people are evil

One of the things I think about with humans is that: Yes. Humans have done a lot of evil. When animals do something we see as bad, we have to understand that it's acting on instinct. It doesn't know better. Whereas humans, who know better, who know right from wrong, have still chosen wrong. And history is full of brutal examples.

But as the same time: We've also done a lot of good. And in that good, we've also spoken against Man's greatest evils. As often as humans have caused tragedies, we're also the same species that rallies together in the aftermath. That aids those in need. That gives comfort.

Just because there's evil, doesn't mean there can't also be good.

And since there was more Christian-specific discussion, feel it's worth mentioning saints.

St. Moses the Black for example was the leader of a violent gang of robbers before his path to sainthood started in earnest.

And it's not like his story is alone. St. Dismas, St. Paul, St. Augustine, St. Pelagia, etc. They didn't exactly start as role models. But they were able to choose better paths. And it's a reminder for humanity as a whole that we can do better than what we are right now.

 I'm really glad that we have such an accepting community. On a lot of other forums I would be banned for even mentioning religion.

Yeah. The mix of D&D & Theology can be interesting. (I've also had some sessions break into theology now and then with my group.)
