Considering that D&D dragons are known to eat and digest metals and gemstones for sustenance, it's not surprising that two of the species (Black and Copper) would think shooting out it's own stomach acid would have it's advantages.
As a counterpoint to the idea that they're vomiting, Donaar Blit'zen who does make his breath as a form of vomiting is called out for having an odd quirk. While he's a dragonborn, not dragon, it does point to the vomit strategy not being the norm by any means.

One time in the 60s (i think) on a drilling rig called the byford dolphin, there was a freak accident with a depressurization chamber where a guy got sucked through a 6 inch gap belly first and they had to use six body bags.
